Location: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida | I went to a new Hardrock on the Seminole Indian reservation just south of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida... to celibrate my 51st birthday party.
As we went into the "cafe" to eat dinner I spotted a black ovation, played by Paul Simon oh so many years ago. Not sure which model... but had an ornately carved bridge... I almost climbed up on the table to see what was on the label inside...
That was cool enough but as we were eating, one of many videos came on... Godspeed flashed up on the screen and a super closeup of an ovation...
Made me wonder if anyone had won the autographed O that was being given away on their website...

could be the 1619 Custom Legend he used in the 1981 Simon and Garfunkel reunion concert in Central Park, awarded to Carrie Fisher as a divorce settlement and sold at auction in September 2001...in fact, Carrie said it was her only alimony payment. |

Location: Florida | Paul Simon was hitched to Carrie Fisher? I can see how that didn't work out.
Why does this famous exchange come to mind....
CF: You contemptible pig. I remained celebate for you. I stood at the back of a cathedral, waiting in celibacy for you, with 300 friends and relatives in attendance. My uncle hired the best Romanian caterer in the state. To obtain the seven limousines for the wedding party my father used up his last favours with 'Mad' Pete Trollo. So for me, for my mother, my grandmother, my father, my uncle, and for the common good, I must now kill you and your brother.
JB: Oh please don't kill us! Please, please don't kill us. You know I love ya baby, I wouldn't leave ya. It wasn't my fault.
CF: You miserable slug. You think you can talk you're way out of this? You betrayed me.
JB: No I didn't. Honest. I ran outta gas. I had a flat tyre. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from outta town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locust's. It wasn't my fault, I swear to God! |

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada | In 1971 (1972? - not sure which year) I met Paul Simon when he came down to Kingston, Jamaica, to do some recording at Dynamic Sound. We went straight to his hotel from the airport, and at the hotel I mentioned I played a bit of guitar (this was in my early guitar-playing days, when I really didn't have much in the way of chops). Paul very kindly hauled his guitars out and invited me to plink away. I remember he'd brought a Dobro and a nice Martin; I can't remember the others, but, hey, this was many moons ago. Anyway, it was a treat getting to play those guitars, when at the time all I owned was some no-name piece of junk. And it was nice of Paul to trust a neophyte with his valuable instruments. |
