Take a look at this ebay listing for vintage Ovation catalogs. About half way down there's a bochure which shows that at some point, probably in the early seventies from the style of the page, Ovation marketed a range of Appalachian Dulcimers. Anybody know anything about this? Bill? Were they made by Ovation or bought-in? Did they use fibreglass construction? Dave if you win this auction I must have a scan of that page.

That's pretty crazy, but not as crazy as the Ovation housing units. I mean, duplexes! WOW! I wonder if the foundation was made from Lyrachord. Or maybe the roofing. Walls?

;)

ObSortOfTopical: Styx was just on VH1-Classic performing 'Lady'. Lots of Tak's, but no Os. I've often wondered why the Tak's are so much better represented than Os. Is it because they have more traditional construction?

Nancy Wilson says she went to Takamine after seeing Pete Townshend playing one, and liked the sound....

I suspicion that the anti "salad-bowl" bias is in play here, the acoustic renaissance has obviously played against Ovation. The traditional wood construction is probably a factor, although I have read that some people think their pickups are more natural sounding, also. I would imagine this is at least partially the impetus for the LX series.

They were just selling them. Ovation Marketing thinking that they could sell other stuff and actually add an accessory devision that would be another profit center. They got over the idea somewhat quickly.
