Hi everybody. I'm new to this but Ovation recommended that I try this to get some information on an Ovation that I just bought. They were stumped as I am. This guitar's SN is 541458 of I know the year but can't find anything else. I have pictures but I don't see any way to post them here. Email me and I'll send them along. It's not a cutout. It's a 6 string deep bowl, black around the edges starburst. 20 frets, I think. Can anyone help me find out more????? Thanks, BJ

Welcome. This link will take you to a tutorial on how to post pics here. You can upload your pics over on our sister site . Once you upload them there you can copy/paste the link to them following the instructions in the tutorial.

Welcome, BJ. If you go register at the OFC Social Network you'll find it easy to upload your pictures there. Then just post links to them here.
There's a bunch of people here with nothing to do but identify guitars.

Apparently we are the official Factory Information Resource (FIR) now! :D

Hi BJ!

You are aware the S/N dating system is good only for USA made guitars, right?

As a quick check, USA made Ovations have the 5 piece neck (skunk stripe) whereas most imports do not.

Pics will help these guys help you.

Not all USA models have a 5 piece neck. I know my Standard Balladeer 12-string is US made, and does not have a 5 piece neck. I think Customs or higher have the 5 piece.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Balladeers seem to be the exception to the 5 piece neck rule.

AFAIK, all Adamii, Elites and Legends have 5 piece necks. I've seen Balladeers with 5's (the 1111 hanging on my wall for example), and some with 1 piece. My early 90's 1869 had the 5 piece as well.

Maybe it's the more recent standard Balladeers that don't have the 5 piece neck?

Lots of Adamii have two piece walnut necks. ;)

The standard balladeer and standard elites have had two piece mahogany necks for a bunch of years now ...

Thanks everybody. I'll see if I can get the pics done tomorrow. Never thought that if it was not US made the SN wouldn't work. The top of the neck doesn't have the traditional Ovation curve life every picture of an O that I could find online. It's got a little groove in the top. Thanks again. Barb

I think AJ's got it. Flat headstock with no ears and a notch in the middle? Sounds like an Applause.

Finally got the 3 pics loaded. I followed all the links suggested at the top of this page. Not quite sure how to get to them though!

Let's say the head was damaged at one time and someone re-did it... not a bad job either!
The bridge resembles that of an Ultra 1312 or Celebrity CC01 or CC11.
But, the rosette doesn't look like anything by Ovation (to my limited knowledge/resources).
And the top is definetely not a stock finish.

Sorry, but my guess would be a look-a-like with an Ovation decal on the head.

Then again, I could be wrong!

Nope. It's definitely an Applause headstock. I had an Applause 12 string with a headstock just like that and bought my daughter an Applause 3/4 size with the same headstock. I still think AJ had it. It's an Applause, but somebody put an Ovation decal on. Either that or Ovation made a few Celebs with the Applause headstock.
