What are you O owners using for cases?

Seems like the original cases are a) scarce and b) expensive. Will anything else work for protection and, more importantly, humidity control?

Right now, I have my 2178 in the cardboard box with a homemade humidifier (damp sponge in a Tupperware container with holes punched in it).

I use original Ovation factory hard sided cases. For humidity control we have a humidifier set up in the music room.

In Brisbane I leave the guitar on the stand and watch the humidity wobble around between 70 and 85%. Today is abnormally dry: 44%!

By keeping it in box you are asking for trouble.
Here are some options:

Place a want add in the for sale section.
Look at ebay and craigs list.
Buy one of the new cases, which should work. Try them out at GC.
Try out a bunch of non-ovation cases.
At least get yourself a gig bag and hang the guitar in the closet.
Get a tribal gig bag.
Get one of those form foam cases.
Anything but a box.
Good luck.

I only use the cases (original hardshell cases) for transport. They can be had on fleabay on occasion, or you can buy a new one from Al.

It's been discussed ad nauseum here, but I prefer to leave all my guitars on hangers. For me, a guitar in its case doesn't get played.

Of course, in Florida I don't have much of a humidity problem. Even in winter it rarely gets below 45% RH in the house.

Mine fits snug in a dread case.

BTW, did you catch it on sale too?

I use an Ovation case for all my Ovations. Hard to find? hardly. Expensive? cheaper than fixing a guitar that got damaged cuz it was sitting in a box.

I would like to find a better case for the Tornado though. It's original case is the flimsy cardboard kind.

Used ones are around. Heck I even found a case for a solidbody at a pawn shop not long ago. I picked it up for Woody.

These are not made by Ovation but are for roundbacks. Don't know anything about them except what's in this link

Roadrunner now makes a case specifically for Ovation "Roundbacks", 2 Sizes. Shallow bowl
and 1 for Mid & Deep bowl. I have one for my 1112-1 I'm trying to sell. Got it up at G.C.
It runs $89.00 to $99.00.

I actually Modified the case by taking the "Ovation" off my old broken Brown Ovation case and with Double coated Tape and 2 small screws attached it up where the "headstock" sits in the case. I couldn't put it anywhere else as that was the only "Flat" spot on the case.

Original Ovation cases are for sale on Ebay nearly all the time and are rarely expensive..Al had a used one for sale a while back, you might ask him...also, asking this group for a used one usually works well...

If it works for you,I have a nice dread case for sale cheap: pm or email me...

I'm with G8R, cases are for storage and I use anything that fits.

I did buy a vintage hardshell case for the 39 D18 since it came with a newer one but that's the only time I tried for a certain case. The newer guitars all came with cases and when I make a guitar or need a case I just get a TKL that will fit.

I use three cases for literally everything: (1) a Tribal Planet dreadnaught size for all deep bowls, the two Taks, the big jazz guitar, and with a big custom foam insert, the EA Vipers, VXT, SST, and Les Paul; (2) an Ovation SB nylon case for all the SSBs; and (3) a heavy after-market nylon hard case for everything else that doesn't fit into the first two. My preference is always to use nylon-covered hard cases due to their lighter weight, straps, and the fact that they are easier on everything else that they come in contact with. All the Ovation and other manufacturers' OHCs are stored in the basement and rarely get used. The only exception might be a long trip.

For a few of my Ovations I've upgraded to the 6-latch TKL hardshell "Gieb" style case. Works for mid depth but not for deep or contourbowl.

I got a new case from Al that fits the T-head fine. I had the same situation for a couple dozen years.

OK guys, I was able to obtain an old tan Ovation case with brown lining from Craig's List for $50.

Some questions... When were the brown lined cases made approximately? The seller also included a soft Ovation vinyl cover, what is the purpose of this?

The vinyl cover is for the case. The case should fit inside the cover.

Cool... If the soft vinyl cover is what I think it is, it is to cover the case.
So I'm guessing that this case once went with a spendy Ovation.
I've never actually handled one, but it is to protect the case.
Maybe add alittle more temperature protection... Who knows?
We were discussing these awhile back. Some members swear by them.
Most of us thought it was alittle anal-retentive.
It will keep your case from getting scuffed-up.

This is what I've been using for the past 13 years. There is hardly a scratch on it, and it's been through some tough times.

Thanks. She is old but in decent shape. a little Armor-All and some glue for the black "ribbon" near the aluminum lip and she'll look nice again.
