He's pretty darned good. Whoever said that white guys don't have rhythm was watching me play, not him!

BT is right, if you haven't seen/heard Kaki, she's worth a listen. And check out her lyrics. Stinging, sarcastic, humorous, brutally honest, and downright frivolous at times.

I Never Said I Love You
"You're so beautiful, so strange, so lovely,
That's the truth.
But if you were the one, baby, you'd've heard it by now;
But I never said I love you
You are a dream-come-true for.... someone,
But not for me.
Still, can't we have fun, darling?"

Life Being What it Is
"Life being what it is
We all dream of revenge
.
.
.
You said I’ll see you in September
But that’s not long enough for me"

Aside from the rhythm the first one sounded like a Michael Hedges piece.

I'd much rather listen to playing that relies on feeling rather than technique.

Well, it IS the Hedges-King school, after all. I've been listening to McGee for a few years and, above all, love his "flow": he puts his whole body into it.

However, I DO know what you mean, Beal: I prefer guitar playing that has more linear definition (as in melody)and harmonic movement. This school is too much an artifact of percussion on six wires strung over a fretboard + box.

the guy in marenostrum's third link, martin tallstrom, is very, very talented and puts a lot of feeling into his music. he has other clips on youtube that are simply fabulous, IMO.

Everyone has a 'soul'..therefore, everyone has their own 'feeling'..However, technique is aquired by 'hard work' :-)...hope I didn't open a can of worms ..easy now

No Dan, that's OK, I know what you mean.
And I'm sure that people know what I mean.
I'd rather watch and listen to Larry Carlton, Sonny Landreth, Kal David, Caleb Smith, Derek Trucks, Tony Furtato that play the instrument and make it talk, rather than play it like a drum. Guess I'm just getting old. Just not my cup of cappachino.

I just picked up a Guitar magazine in the store tonight. Can't remember the name of it, but it had a history of guitars. It had a little sidebar with Michael Hedges at the top and a nice paragraph about Kaki at the bottom representing the future of that style. I like it as part of the mix, but not as the only thing in the diet. I have trouble singing along with it.

Larry Carlton was one of my favorite in the '80 and still is along with Pat Metheny, Lee Ritenour (FourPlay, together with Nathan East, Bob James and Harvey Mason) and others... world move on and I'm pleased to see there are players nowday that made their instruments really talk. Technic is the way one can express himself at the highest. If one do not know how to keep properly an instrument in his hands I see it hard to express his feeling. Just my cup of cappuccino ;) .
