RELATING TO YOUR GUITAR/MUSICAL EXPERIENCES,

If you could go back and do one thing different in your past, what would it be?

I'll start it off with my answer ...

I wish I could have taken classical guitar lessons to start off.

That one's easy. I wish that instead of replacing the bridge on my old Gibson when it cracked, I had just put a tailpiece on it. Then the tone would have IMPROVED, instead of being compromised, and I would still have it.

Wish I'd have bought an Ultra GP in 1984 instead of buying our first TV.

I would never have sold my '69 D-28 in 2002...
Even though as things turned out my '48 is awesome...But the '69 was such a part of "me" for so long...

Popped a certain guitarist in the nose. Forty eight times, at least.

Then gone home and played guitar, not put it in the closet for 20 years.

...one isn't anywhere near enough to make a difference, but I wouldn't have waited 20 years to buy my second guitar, as the first one was holding me back...

Mid 1970s I could have bought a late 1950s Gold Top LP for around $1,200. Had the guitar in my possession for about 4 days for a jam and recording session but I'd moved away from playing electric at that time and didn't buy it - big mistake.

Instead devoting all that time and energy learning guitar, I wish I'd studied keyboard.

I would hope if I had a chance to do it all over again with regard to music, I would have learned earlier that other peoples opinions, especially parents, are just that... opinions. Also that dreams and aspirations could (maybe should) be perused not just dismissed because of those arguably ignorant opinions.

Mine is a no brainer.

When I was still a teenager, one of my friends told me about this great guitar teacher in Berkley (I lived in the Bay Area then), and even gave me his number. I called him up, but he was a bit too much money for my blood.

I politely thanked this unknown teacher named Joe, and never called back. Imagine my surprise when "Surfing With The Alien" came out.

Yeah, I turned down lessons with Joe Satriani. STUPID STUPID STUPID

Man, that one hurt even thinking about how your foot looked that night Johnny.

Anyhow, mine is that I wasted 15 years with a guitar sitting in the closet, dealing with a wife (ex) that really had a knack for spending money. Finally picked it up again (and a few more) ;) but will never recover all that lost practice time. :(
