This is one attractive looking guitar - but not one bid on it - which of course made me go hmmmmm! http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3751569197&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT The bidding ended - but the owner is willing to do a private deal. Still - I'm leery since there was no bids on the original auction. If anyone has any insight - I could sure use it! Dano

This model is Pre-OP-24 preamp. It has the volume/tone concentric knobs. But it is my favorite of the Collectors editions. Serge www.sergiolara.com

In another thread CWK says that the '84 is the only one he has, and he could probably have any of them. In this case, the price is too high. This seller has had this guitar up for auction several times at the $525 opening bid price with no takers. Can't take a hint, it seems. It isn't about whether the guitar is actually worth that much as much as it is a question of current market value. More than 2500 of them were produced, so they are not particularly rare and are not really in demand. If it doesn't sell this time, offer $400 - $450, remembering that you'll have to pay more for shipping and add customs duties, etc.

Mine is one of two prototypes made(s/n110283), one natural (mine) and one black, both bearclaw tops(regular tops were used in production since we thought we couldn't get 2000+ bearclaw tops. A correct assumption). I had my bowl painted black when the electronics went in. It was my main guitar for 10 years. The tension rod began to uncurl and came out the back of the neck (1st fret area) so I had another neck put on and never used it. Last winter I had that excellent service dept make a 1 3/4 fat neck (ya'll may have heard I like them like that) and it's back in the stable again. Kind of funny, the only Ovation in the house (except a mando(lynn and chello) and a bass) This auction guy, is he the same guy that has the store "Guitar Broker"? Craig Brody. If that's the guy MrDano you can relax on the trust issue, just work out the price.

We are talking about a regular production 1984 collector's edition here. What is the difference between this regular 1984 & shallow bowl Elite? Just curious why you only have 1 Ovation (no Adamas??) but spent $$$ on other expensive guitars like Collings? How do you compare Collings vs Ovation? Are they overpriced or not? I have too many Ovation & am seriously thinking about upgrading to Collings.

Not alot of difference between the 84 and production elite supershaller bowl, cosmetic only I think. Why is there only 1 (4 actually but who's counting) in the house. Long story, let's just say my endorsement deal expired in '98. Sometimes there are 3 slotheads hanging out. There are others in the basement, the super legend prototype(elite) and a refurbished Josh White and some more. There are several Hamers. As to the 5 Collings, they are wonderful guitars and sound great. They are Brazilian Rosewood and one maple. They cost alot and are as mentioned fancy furniture, a seagul would probably sound 90% as good. However I can probably get my money back out of them whenever I go to sell them, others I'm not so sure about. A new Martin would take a hit as would a Santa Cruz and some of the others. An Olsen would probably make you money. They hold their value. The Nationals are mostly all originals(1927-1934) and are lovely investments that make nice noise. I've sold some and haven't lost money yet on one.
