I currently am awaiting my first Ovation, and it is an Elite LX BCB. I was wondering from all you fine people that have had Ovations especially LX series. Which one is better, or is it worth the money for the Elite vs the Standard Elite. I went off of the website and chosed based on AA spruce. The only other difference that I could see, is ebony over rosewood (neck & bridge), and gloss over satin on the neck. I would like to hear some opinions on these matters. Thanks, MO

I'm interested in hearing about the difference between a Standard Elite & Elite myself. I bought a new 2003 (non LX) 1858 Elite 12 in BCB. VERY nice guitar & the BCB is gorgeous.

I imagine the sound is similar (I don't one one or the other), but I'm a sucker for all the bling bling of the Elite and Custom Elite. There are not many things I'd rather wrap my hand around than a 5 piece glossed neck.

The diference is just in the tuck and trim. You could argue holding its value and virtues of purely esoterics to justify the cost difference if you wanted. Ebony may be in better shape than Rosewood in another 100 years and if hooked up to a digital analyzer sound thingee you could probably quantify the differences but to the individual in a music store (me, several times lately) there is no sound or feel difference.

Having said that - there is still enough difference between instruments to fudge any quantified analisys.

I think ebony is just cooler than rosewood and I think the grain and lustre of the top they put on my Elite LX just calls out across a room.

I also think women that drive pickup trucks get bonus points - so you figure it out!

So the grading is Standard Elite-Elite-Custom Elite?

I'd like to stick to LX series if possible. I will say it's probably a no brainer that the Elite Custom is better than both Elite & Standard Elite. MO

What comes to mind is difference between a design feature and a trim option. The A, AA and AAA tops I believe are based more on looks than on actual ring density and such. Previous posts have told of the subjective grading of top woods.

More abalone and glossier necks require more handwork and time.

I have the Std. Elite in NEB finish and waited til I could no longer for the Elite LX in BCB to be in stock. I played an Elite LX with all the gloss and now owning the Std. Elite LX and find that there is no sound difference. As far as looks, I find the satin finish compared to gloss to be no real advantage personally. The gold tuners compared to chrome....just a matter of taste. The A compared to AA Sitka top.........just a cosmetic thing in my opinion. Saving almost $200 for same sound..........priceless! One can argue for either. I would have bought the Elite LX rather than Std. if in stock but the time not in stock gave me time to think the issue and the compulsiveness wore off. I will say this.........after you play this guitar in either model plugged, you will prefer the plugged in sound over purely acoustic, once again MHO! Enough said..........go Steelers and keep on picking!

Personally, I would spend the money for a gloss finish on the neck, but that's my personal preference.

Ice Cream.

Yes, went for some of the extras and I bought the elite lx. The Elite lx in natural with the gloss neck and ebony? Gorgeous! Is the sound different from the standard elite? I would hope the quality of the wood (and the extra expense) might make some difference in sound, but I'm not sure it does. In this case, I'm very happy with the elite lx, and I have no regrets about the extra few hundred. As with cars, 2 years after a purchase I've been more upset when I didn't get the extras as opposed to never being upset the times I spent a little more.

Well, I just got confirmation today! It's on its way. I'm so excited that I can hardly look at my piece of crap strat replica that I put together. It is now my official trash guitar, ya know the one my 3 yr old gets to practice on. Anyway I had to tell someone. Thanks, MO
