I own an Elite FRG that has now been sent to Kaman Canada for some warranty issues (The FRG comes with a 5 year). The epaulet has been peeling since day one, there is a terrible buzzing, the neck join leaves much to be desired and the darn top of the guitar is warping. I have been told that the buzzing and epaulet will be corrected but the warping and bad neck join will not be covered. Does anyone define exactly what a FRG is? I was under the impression that there was a cosmetic flaw and was corrected at factory.

A "reconditioned" product is something that was originally unflawed, developed wear and tear with use, and was returned to be restored to original or near-original condition. However, I'm not sure if FRG has the same connotation.

Ie, they may have had some pickup problems, or preamp problems. I think you see individial FRG's as well as perhaps a whole bunch of identical FRG's (as in a recall... some of which may have been "display" models at dealerships). B stock, or 2nds, are usually finish flaws that are not cost effective to fix (at least from other brands thats what it is)

Everyone thinks that these were "returned to the factory and reconditioned" Good, the marketing rhetoric worked. What leaves the factory? Firsts and Frigs. What comes back to the factory? Customer service guitars. Rarely does a unit come back and get frigged. It does happen but rarely. Can you say Rocking Horse Poop? click.

But on another note - what was with all those 30th Anniv. Legend "FRGs" that were going around, supposedly with "fixed" preamps?

I don't think that the units were sold and sent back to be fixed. I understood that there was a flaw at the factory and the flaw was corrected. Ovation, nor any other company can sell any product for full retail if there was a problem during development. Marketing rhetoric? Your statement implies that Ovation's marketing department is underminding thier cutomers. I really don't think that is true. Main Entry: re·con·di·tion Pronunciation: "rE-k&n-'di-sh&n Function: transitive verb 1 : to restore to good condition (as by replacing parts)

Artifically create a 'need' where there might (might!) have been only a 'want?' Business is not interested in the customer's well being any more than what is necessary to protect their income stream. Ovation's marketroids aren't undermining their customers as much as they're manipulating them. This is the sworn duty of all marketing types, though, eh?

We are presented with a conflict of FRG definitions; not about marketing needs and wants. Ovation places a factory reconditioned title on thier 2nds (There is no difference between 2nds and FRGs stated by cwk2). The term "reconditioned" means that there was a process carried out whereby a repair or correction was made. A statement was made about Ovation's use of the FRG title from a rhetoric standpoint. Can we, the consumer, trust that an Ovation reconditioned guitar has actually been reconditioned? Plagiarizing is always wrong. If I quote directly from a text I always make sure to credit the original author, eh. ;)

Not sure what you think I plagiarized, but hey, if whatever I allegedly plagiarized is wrong (for certain values thereof), then it cain't be my fault. ;)
