I hope I can be of some help here. I went to GC today to try more Ovations. I tried the Elite Lx, mid depth NEB color and I tried the step up Elite Lx, mid depth NEB with gold tuners, ebony fretboard and bridge and different inlays.

First, the gloss on the high end LX series is very glossy and slow to play, I don't like gloss. I prefer the oiled wood myself with the v. But the satin round shape of the Elite Standard is ok.

Tone wise the standard Elite Lx was a little brighter and had more character. The high end LX was more mellow across the board..string guage and life span was the same on both.

If you want a guitar with the small holes then the Elite LX standard at $899 is an outstanding guitar. I would absolutely choose it over the fancier big brother which is more money.

I arrived at GC 10 minutes after they opened and there were 4 people in the acoustic room. I plugged in but you can't do a real good test with people playing acoustically 5 feet from you.

Preamp sounded decent but it seemed that the tone sliders worked both when the eq was engaged and not engaged. When the eq was engaged flat the guitar got brighter....wierd, no other preamps I've played did that. Gotta love that big red tuner. Didn't check to see if you could say tune to c or something other than eabgd.

Finally, the Balladeer Lx with the standard sound hole did sound richer and fuller than either of the Elites. Same volume too. I don't dig the funky rosette, I miss the standard leaf on last years Balladeers.

In summary...Either Elite LX's are killer guitars AND if you like dark rosewood, the 3 standard elites all had dark rosewood unlike say the Legend LX's and the 4 of them I have seen have washed out light rosewood..yuck.

Tbran,

The blue flame at MF is indeed an Elite T -- 1778T I believe. Same as the red flame, just a different color. Personally, I like the red better ... but I'm sure Paul Hebert will be getting one of these to match his MOB. :D

For eveyone else, here is a link to the picture ...

Ahhhh, a blue flame MOB, now you are talking. I mean talking ULGY! The Elite T is very cool though. Plus the Elite T is a great sounding guitar. Will the MOB just go away! Please! :D
