Hi OFC Fans,

I was in Daddy's Junky Music in Vernon, CT last night buying a couple of guitar straps and a humidifier when in walked a woman with what looked like a funny black fruit bowl. She was looking to buy another O for aher kids. Only it was what was left after she backed up over her son's new Celebrity in the garage in her new VW Beetle. What it was doing on the garage floor I don't know. But she backed up over it totally demolishing the guitar with the exception of the bowl which remained virtually intact. Guess it goes to say that using that good old Kaman Helicopter material can sure go a long way!! Play On!

Yeah, and given only the bowl and a few tuner bushings, the mothership can rebuild it to be "like new"!

Can I assume that a place named "Junky Music" is the only place that would take just the bowl as a trade-in?

I remember a while ago Miles posted about taking a good-sized sledgehammer to an old O in his driveway just to test it's durabilty . . . I understand it took QUITE some doing to finally get it to fail . .

I'm sure Bill's probably batted a couple of good O'homers out by the Factory dumpster as well . .

A fellow Ovation gigging guitarist (whose name will be witheld to protect his reputation) told me that he recently grabbed his double Hercules stand (loaded with 2 O's) at a gig to move it. He inadvertantly hit the release, and both guitars dropped to the floor with a BOOM! . . . not a scratch . . . you won't find too many acoustics that can do that.

It probably WOULD'VE been covered if it wasn't for the fact that it was a new VW Beetle that was involved . . . something about two roundbacks cancelling each other out . .

Ok, I'll fess up. I'm the boob who did it. I almost had a heart attack when it happened because I was sure that I had to do some damage to the guitars, but as Cliff said, not a scratch! In fact, they didn't even go out of tune. That was the first time I ever had something like that happen at a gig and it's a good thing I didn't have one of my Martins on that stand. I doubt that they would have fared as well. I remember Cliff telling me how strong Ovations were but I never expected to put them to that kind of test. Hopefully, I never will again.

I knew that there was a reason I loved my O's so much -- round bowl, round bug, round belly ...

Daddy's Junky Music is the name of a New England based chain of music stores out of NH that is a smaller scale GC type. They like to have Blow Out or Blow Up sales every other week just like the GC's and piss each other off with similar deals. Some deals can be had. Play On!

Does anybody here have a GuitarCenter and a SamAsh (or other competitor) within close proximity to each other?

The closest GuitarCenter to me (now) is on Rte.22 in Springfield, NJ.
Just recently, SamAsh opened a new store directly ACROSS the street from them!

It's almost some type of cruel joke as driving from one to the other is a MAJOR pain in the arse, and running across the highway (even though it's only two lanes in one direction) is litterally an accident waiting to happen . . .

Ash has always felt that the NYC market was theirs. I understand that GC has just opened recently on Manhattan. Yes there is competitive "spirit" here. Of course, it was OK when Ash went to California.......

Up in Hollywood, on Sunset, there's a huge GC, a Manny's (fairly new), a Sam Ashe, and a number of smaller stores, all within a 2 block area.

GuitarCenter DID open a huge store on Union Square, though I've yet to visit it yet . . .
We've been kicking around the idea of taking the train into the City on Halloween to check out the parade in GreenwichVillage . . . maybe I'll make a day of it . .

I went to a couple Daddy's Junk Music in New England in the past year. Had a GREAT experience in one in New Hampshire...first time I got to try an LX (elite and legend) and that was back in May. They were really friendly and had some good deals. The second one (I think in CT) they were jerks and I walked out. I asked where the bathroom was, and they said they didn't have one (yeah sure, in this big store-what year is it?). I said "Wow, how do you manage not to go all day? Hmmm, and I was looking to buy a high end Ovation guitar. Too bad, cause I have to take a leak...and Sam ash has bathrooms... See ya"

Thank God for the Dunkin Donuts a short distance away...my eyes were already yellow.

With my luck, a string would snap!

DOH!

No thanks. Some things just don't belong near a guitar.
