I just picked up my first Ovation! A legend 1767 that needed a lot of love to make it better. $160 well spent. I almost have it in respectable shape since the prior owner tried to scrape some paint and stickers off of it and made a mess. I still have some work to do and some of the damage cannot be fixed I am afraid but it now looks somewhat respectable.

Good pick-up, you would have to be pleased with the way she looks now.

For $160, you got a steal - especially as the damage is only 'cosmetic'. Gives the guitar a real Eric Clapton look.

and Welcome.

Hey folks, wow, thanks for the welcome. I have a friend who filled in the real deep gouges with gel coat and the rest was wet sanded with 400 and 600 grit sandpaper and buffed off with a buffing wheel. Ovation is sending me new machine and I wil be set!

Looks like my 1769 Custom Legend. The only thing is, I paid $1300 for it. What a sucker!

Dang!! :eek:
Is the prior owner still on the loose or have the authorities caught them yet? They are obviously dangerous and should be put away for a crime like that. Super job on the rescue, twisted!

Welcome, twisted;
What a rescue; as a board, we really like to see the forlorn ones restored and loved again (and mourning occurs when one is obviously abused.) You've done a great job--and you've also been spared "First Ding Syndrome" (usually done by music stands and other sundry sharp edges.)
Looks like a great guitar has ended up in the hands of a great owner. Good to have you aboard.

Thanks again to everyone for the warm welcome. What a great place. I did send the guy I bought it from an "after". He said he was "jealous" and that it looked amazing. Karen, about the first ding syndrom, you are very correct there :) . I bumped the back of it on my stand and immediatly had that sinking feeling. Then I remembered it was an ovation. The back of the body is pretty safe. On another note, the 2 guys Kim and John @ Ovation customer service have been great with hints, tips, warnings etc. They have been very helpful. I have always wanted an Ovation since my college roomate (25 years ago!) had one. Seeing Leo Kottke in concert the first time sealed the deal. Thanks again folks!

I wish I had a nickel for every time I've heard that old line.
