What are your opinions in regard to the CC44S. I'm fairly certain that the Celebrity series isn't the favorite here, but does anyone have any kind words about this guitar? Or is it to be avoided at all costs?

Thank you.

I don't have any experience with that specific model, but IMHO (and I suspect this is pretty much the consensus on this group) if you can possibly manage the cash, buy a USA made Ovation. You will get a better top (solid wood vs laminate), and better "everything else" (tuners, electronics, everything).

Used models are available on eBay at ridiculously low prices compared to the value you receive. That's where I'd be looking.

I've played one in a shop and it had a great action and the tone was reasonable. It will be something you can play without a problem as long as the set up is OK. Take a small metal ruler with you to the shop and measure the gap between the bottom of the string and the top of the 12th fret. Should be around 5/64" or less. Check the neck is straight and play every note on the guitar to check that none buzz.

These are made in Korea or China, so check it carefully for flaws before you pay for it, as the quality control seems to be less finicky in those places.

As Jeff said, you'll get better bang for your buck with a second hand USA model, but if you want new, this is a good guitar for the money. The biggest difference will be in the tone.

I has a Solid Top, but a crappy Pre-amp.

I had a CC44 (no "S") and it wasn't too bad.
But it had the OP4BT pre-amp which does have a tuner...
[and is about the same as the OP-Pro without the Pre-EQ]

If you've already got it, it's Okay.
If you're thinking about buying it, don't pay more than $200 with a case. (or at least a bag)

Thank you very, very much for the input.
In truth, it is the 1778T that I want (I've owned a couple in the past), but since I have a shoulder injury that sometimes makes it difficult to play anything thicker than electric guitars, I thought I would see if I could get something comparable to the 1778T, but with a shallower body. (And if it has a shallower body, it really isn't a 1778T, so...)

In addition, the wider neck on the 1778T wasn't the most comfortable in the world for me. (And it seemed like a pronounced "V")

But I have never gotten as close to sonic euphoria than I did when I had my first 1778T.

The CC44 ("S" or otherwise) is the same bowl as a 1778T...
As to the neck, the newer T's with a TRC don't really have that thick a neck.
Some of the older T's had the Kaman bar truss system which gave them a thicker neck.
If you are looking for an Elite T,

Woody is selling his...

Just thought that I would share that... :D

I bought a Celebrity for my daughter for her birthday one year (figuring that if she decided guitar wasn't her thing I wouldn't be out a whole lot.)
I played through a bunch of them before I found a neck that felt less chunky and played fairly easily. The acoustic sound it had was really quite good; I could hear the difference plugged in, because it sounded a little muddy.
Compared to a lot of other "entry level" guitars, it's not a bad deal at all.
I dislike the k-bars, too--my hands are too small for them, and a lot of them seem to have that "v" feel.
The newer Ts with the truss rod neck are much more comfortable; if I could get a used one with that neck in super-shallow I wouldn't hesitate.

Thank you again very much. Your responses are estremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Then, if one wants a T that has the thinner TRC neck, does that mean that one should look for non-USA Ts?

And should it be an 1868 and not a 1778 that I should be looking for?

The non-USA necks are usually k-bars; it's easy enough to tell--truss rod cover above the nut or no truss rod cover.
1868 will be the super-shallow bowl; 1778 will be mid-depth.
I have one super-shallow, which is my every day guitar, because I have shoulder issues as well. She isn't as big-voiced as her older, deeper sisters, but she more than holds her own against some of the wood boxes, and she also packs quite a punch plugged in.
Best wishes in finding what you want--you'll get lots of wisdom from the board; you may even find that most of it's useful! ;) :D

You don't have to look for non-USA T's...just make it a T with a truss rod cover. The newer TRC version is a LOT more common than the old K-bar model.

I have always found, though my time on this board has been intermittent, that the advice here has always been excellent.
There are many forums with varying degrees of quality of posts and civility of participants. I rank the OFC as one of the best.

Last year I got an 1868T (TRC, OpPro); it was a wait, and I'm not sure they offer that model any longer, but I really like it.
