| Well, I did it! Dropped my wonderful 1613 about 4 feet right on her tail and popped the top up off the bowl about 1/4 inch or so and 8 inches long, plus two good cracks up to the bridge and some other little markings.
So, the Mothership the way to go here? New top maybe? I am not the original owner but does that matter? I'm willing to pay to have it repaired.
Is this John Budney's area?
Thanks in advance and yes I feel stupid. :(

I am so sorry--I've had an injured O, but as bad as it was, this is worse.
This is definitely a job for Mother and all her wonderful practitioners. If your baby were mine, I wouldn't entrust her to anyone else. There's a link to the mothership at the Ovation site, info@ovationguitars.com. If you attention it to John, I know he'll get it.
I know that they can help......we've seen worse.

-if you were the original owner and they had your warranty card to prove it,
-and if it was a factory defect,
THEN they would repair your guitar free of charge.
Otherwise, they are pleased to repair it...you just have to pay for the service. |

Location: Converse, Texas | The Mothership does excellent work on repairs. You might give them the option of repair or replace. I'd vote for replace if the cost isn't a problem.
Would be a great time to upgrade the top! |

Location: SoCal | The advantage of replacement is a new bowl with the lighter material. You can also upgrade your electronics at the same time. Lastly, the finish used now is thinner which vibrates better and is less prone to lacquer cracks...... |

| Thanks for all the response and advice. I have written John directly and waiting to hear from him before I ship. I'm going to let them do what they will, I would love to have just the cracks repaired but also think a new top would be great so either way is fine.
How it fell 4 feet is from hanging it on the wall to get it out of the way for a minute while setting up some recording gear. Thought it was on the hanger OK but..............4 feet onto a hardwood floor. Watched it happen from just out of reach to catch her. Very stupid to not put it in the case but kind of rushing around doing a million thinks and tired from working. It's water under the bridge at this point.
Thanks again folks and I can't wait to get her patched up and back in my hands. ;)

Last weekend at a coffeehouse the whole audience got to watch my buddy Dave Zs upright bass take a lo-ong fall off the stand to crash on stage.
Apparently the bridge popping off those things is relatively common, and it was a pretty easy fix Monday night. And it's acquired a few new dings which, we all know, only adds charisma to the sound of the Doghouse B.
So I say; if you can keep it all original, do so. It makes for better war stories down the line. |

| After some relaxed thought this morning I am leaning toward repair as opposed to replacement since I do love the sound as is and I've seen some great repairs where you could hardly tell where the cracks were.

Location: Portland, OR | 17 or so years back I had my 1118 do battle with a bass headstock south of the bridge. That crack was fixed by the folks in Conn and when it came back it had never sounded better. Cost was minimal, I had electrics added and it still plays great. You can see the crack, but who cares. |

| After taking some pics of the damage today it's pretty apparent that all cracks follow the grain and should be repairable. The bowl has no cracks I can see and everything else seems fine other than some binding where at where the top will need to be re-set to the bowl. I like the sound of this guitar so I would prefer repair but I will wait until it's in proper hands to make the decision.
