Here is an interesting interview with Bill Collings, the man behind the guitars that many of us love to own and play!

If these babies are as good as you folks say they are, I might just have to start looking for one for myself. Maybe an OM size, with some nice binding on the headstock, with a p/u installed. Blonde maple would be nice.

Finally, someone who knows what he's talking about. :D Great read Stephen, thanks.

Interesting that Collings WON'T INSTALL any pickups in their guitars. They leave it up to you.

Many folks have installed the K&K pups with an endpin output jack.
I have that installed in my maple C-10 and it sounds terrific running through the AAD.

ProfBB, I have a OM3maple at Cotten's now......
I've put Fishmans in some of mine. but I'm thinking about a K&K in the SJ because of the wider spacing at the saddle. The OM3 has that too btw profBB.

Beal, I'm trying to remember. Your SJ doesn't have any inlays on the fretboard?

No those were not inlays, those were drool stains.

Paul, we're gonna have fun this weekend. I'm taking pictures of you playing non-Ovation guitars and gonna post them all over the internet.

Both the SJ and the OM3 have blind fingerboards. My D42 does too.

I have the K & K in a 000 Martin and an L R Baggs I-Beam In my OM. The K & K has a hotter signal than the I-beam but both sound great.

The K & K can be prone to feedback at higher volumes.

I've got one of each and they are both sitting on the shelf in the guitar storage room. Neither one is feeding back too much but they are sitting at very low volume.

I guess I need to get over to Stephen's and try out one of his Collings to see what all the fuss is about. Beal, is the one at Cottons the model used by Matt at Amelia last spring?

I am quite fond of Collings and even more so after seeing how they are made and meeting Bill himself. But don't be mislead that Collings is defacto superior to everything else you've got. Every guitar stands on it's own merits. I've got 6 Collings in the house right now and while they are definately 'way up there' on my personal pecking order, they are certainly not numbers 1 thru 6 exclusively.

Eight year's supply of Sitka remains? Sad.

Professor, I have a beautiful sunburst C-10 deep body that I am going to part with (since I got my custom sunburst cutaway). Tony C is mulling it over so he would have first dibs.

It sounds great now and I am sure dropping a K&K western or some other pup would fit the bill.

The C-10s and OMs are the most comfortable to play guitars that I have ever owned. They just fit the body so nice.
