Sunday, while we were running errands, I convinced my DW to go to Sam Ash just to look around. She agreed, I don't know why. So, we go into the acoustic section and there hanging on the wall among several other new & discontinued models, was an 1868T. She tells me to go ahead and play it. After trying it out plugged & unplugged, I smiled, hung it back up and began to walk out the door.

She looks at me says: "I thought you were going to bug me about that guitar until you got it. You really surprised me." I replied: "The day isn't over yet."

She told me to go back in and see what it cost. After some haggling over price and OHSC. I got her for less than $600 with OHSC. Of course my private funds are now depleted and some haggling still needs to be done with the Misses.

After doing my normal Sunday chores, I disappeared and played for 3 hours. Ahhhhhh....

Thanks to everyone for their opinions and advice previously.

Now for a few questions:
- It came with an OP-PRO. I was expecting the OP-30. So what pickup is in it?

- The serial number is 6088xx. The database says 2004-2007. What year was it really made?

CS, I look when ever I get the chance. Its looking while she is with me, now thats the problem.

Scratch one question: Kim said its most likely a 2007. I forgot to ask about the pickup, truthfully it makes no difference.

Hey Joe. Good get.
I was gonna say that it was made this year, cuz my Sweetwater 2078T(CK) has a 619xxx serial number, and I had to wait for them to build it. But Kim would know better.
Also, it seems that they put the OP-Pro into just about everything nowadays.
A super-shallow T is pretty uncommon, so that is a Real Good score!

OMA,
Thanks. I figured it was either an 06 or 07. 2007 was the last year they were made, so I am told. I love the Super Shallow!

JB,
I made a similar agreement with the Misses... no new guitars (or talk of new guitars) for a while. Now accessories, pedals and preamps were never included in that discussion.

If it's an OP-Pro preamp, then you most likely have an Original Patented Pickup.

which looks like this:

Yeah I was at Guitar Center on Black Friday and had a somewhat similar experience. I went in to return a guitar humidifier and almost walked out with a Dean Dimebag electric (yes, I am a metal-man at heart).

I was completely expecting "The Boss" to tell me to go but she actually said to get it if I wanted to. It knid of threw me off and I walked out empty handed and confused.

We spent the rest of the shopping day discussing why I wanted it. In the end, I decided that I could live without it... Oh crap, you think this was her way of using reverse psychology on me? If so, it really worked

If going into a guitar store to look is dangerous, then killing an hour or two browsing on eBay has got to be dang near suicidal (in a good way). After reading this thread I considered the guitars I own or have owned and only 4 have been directed purchases, meaning I knew what I wanted before I went out and bought it. The rest have come from going into a guitar store, or browsing eBay.

Oooooo - pretty...

I avoid the walls of guitars in the big stores, but I'm a real sucker for the used stuff behind glass in the vintage room, and then there's the effects cases and the pro room . . .

...you know that the last time I was in your store, Alison, it was the "Medicine Springs Saloon"! The only guitar I saw was mine on stage! ;)

My local guitar shop (Apple's electric side) has a rack of straps on your way out the door...
While looking I gotta remind myself that I have many straps and rarely play standing-up.

Haven't been in there for years. In fact, I think the last time I was in Apple at all was in '96 when I bought my first Ovation from the acoustic store.
Funny, since I work in Northwest. I just hate the hassle of downtown parking.

I don't like to go into music stores; not because it's so unnervingly tempting, but because they just never have what I like--or want. Like the s/s T that Auriemma just landed, or any other O's that would speak to me. At my age, I don't have a lot of time to waste anymore, so the last time I got a guitar it was because our own AlPep was so accommodating. I did finally play a wood box that I wouldn't mind having, but that wasn't through a store....
(And, Ali, I only wish your Hot Springs was in NC--'cause then I'd be more than happy to oblige you by stopping in to browse around.)

I'm with you Karen. The stores near me are full of *%^& or overpriced guitars. They have more guitars than me, but none as nice.

I go in to buy plectrums and maybe the odd music book.
