This is true.

It had been predicted for a long time that once Apple reached 'critical mass' the virus makers would start spending some time aiming their ills in that direction.

I see the iPhone is making it's move.

My son just got blacklisted by me. He called and told me that he bought a MacBook Pro (??) so I could have his PC laptop. His reasoning was that all the professionals in the Film/Video world used Macs and he needed to get with the program.

Which is why he hides inside a dinosaur suit. ;)

He told me the other day that he is not going to renew his contract in April cause he wants to get back to acting on stage and film.

I asked him if he was sure he wanted to give up that high paying gig with the economy in the toilet.

He said he wasn't worried cause I still have a spare bedroom.

I'd be much more concerned if you had mentioned March 20-21 for the day of the jam fingerprints.

Now I know you were just kidding!

Too late. Stephen, expect an unsightly package on your doorstep the week following your return from FL.

"all the professionals in the Film/Video world used Macs and he needed to get with the program."

I'm just offering up that he should verify comments like that and note the word "used" not "use". I know enough "professionals in the Film/Video world" who do not. One actually goes as far as having a mac setup in their front office that the clients see, but the actual data editing, post and such is done on linux boxes and pc's in the back.

But back to the spirit of this thread.. yes indeed. I posted an article a couple of months ago on this very subject. MAC users in general are becoming a target of identity theft because they have been living with a false sense of security for so long many do not have a concept of computer security. Now that the MAC world has grown, hackers and malware engineers see fresh meat.

And what's wrong with having one just cause they're cool? I think MAC's are great if they do what you need and you can afford one.

FWIW from the article "years of boasting about the Mac's near invincibility," is very misleading. A MAC is no harder to hack or hijack than any other op system. But why spend time writing a hack for 1000's of computers when you can write one for millions. That is the ONLY reason there hasn't been widespread attacks on MACS HOWEVER!!!! in capitals HOWEVER, the capability to do some pretty nasty stuff to MACS is out there. They are just waiting for enough units to be in use to make it worthwhile and not "blow their cover" so to speak.

err.. Apple quietly updates an 18-month old knowledgebase article to reflect newer versions of antivirus software

I know, not as sexy of a headline. Apple has been (wisely) recommending antivirus software for quite some time.

Oh, and Greg, don't buy a Mac. ;)

People are gonna buy the best tool for the job. Mac is very much like Ovation, very small customer base but fiercely loyal. It's never gonna be main stream and to most fans that's just fine. The last thing I wanna see is my crusty old grey haired insurance agent pulling out a MacBook to give me a quote. Sorta like seeing Willie Nelson play an Elite-T. It just ain't right.

This is why, as soon as the kids move-out, you should move to the one-bedroom condo of your choice.

Already go the music room/recording studio for me and one of the other bedrooms has been converted into my wife's "Doll Room".

That still leaves a couple that she insists as keeping "for family members and guests". I disagree and would happily put guests up at a hotel but some arguments aren't worth fighting over.

I went from a 2700sf, 6 bedroom, 3 bath house to a 1400sf, 3 bedroom, 1 bath house. 1 bedroom is my music/computer room and another is her ebay stock/shipping room.

That neatly solved the potential 'moving back in' problem. Neither of my daughters seems interested in sleeping in the garage.

... I lost track. Exactly how did we get here from Apples' security issues?

If you visit my Mom's house, after the first 12 hours you are no longer a "Guest"...
Do some dishes, fire-up the lawnmower, change some oil... Do something.

We all have PC's and McAfee & Firefox work just fine.
