Times are tough. I was actually asked for ID at my last gig by an elderly lady at the door. But the sparkle in her eye and her gummy (but cheeky) grin let me know that she was just flirting with me

BTW...the Steve Watson that wrote the article is not me :D

Damned big brother... A remote hideaway in the mountains is looking better and better. Deeper and deeper in, too.

I agree and I'm not sorry that my parents decided to leave the UK back in the 60s. Too many people jammed into that little country and it seems not many of them like each other.

If it wasn't so damn cold in Canada I'd move further north to some isolated area..lol

The Musicians Union have been on this for a while. It's a complete and utter disgrace and typical of the attitude of the Police Force in this country. They'd rather create mountains of paperwork collecting useless information on law abiding citizens than actually get off their arses and aprehend the real criminals. It makes me puke. It's also typical of the the Government's approach to crime since the bombings in '07. Everyone is potentially guilty of something until proven innocent. It's obscene.

It's Orwellian. If it happened to me I'd sue their asses off and never have to work again.

Good grief, whoever thought this up should be fired.

I'm playing in the London area in April. The promoter hasn't mentioned this yet. Anyone know if the paper work needs to be filed for each venue?

As I understand it the form needs to be filled in for each event and is the promotors responsibility. Right now it's only in London Boroughs which come under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police. They are mostly concerned with the style of music and the ethnicity and age of the audience. (The Met's reputation for racial tolerance is less than stellar) So if it's it's anything likley to be popular with young blacks or Asians the Met will undoubtedly deploy their usual heavy-handed tactics.

We're considering dropping a Cat Stevens song from our set in case we get accused of colluding with a terrorist.

Thanks Paul.
Just heard back from my rep across the pond. They're keeping an eye on the situation. It's possible it may be struck down before my trip. If not, we'll have to file with each venue...

I'm just an old folkie. I doubt my audience will be dangerous. :)

People have been forgetting to pay me for years so i guess nothing has changed. I doubt this will pass.

paul don't be negative about the Met - their reputation for racial INtolerance is truly stellar and recognised throughout the world. I believe they mentor the LAPD.

jonmark - don't forget to post your dates when you come over.
