Hi

I have a Collectors edition 2002.

My problem is: I have a low humming sound which is constant.
It must be a fault in the preamp or the piezo itself.. Sounds like bad grounding

The humming goes away if I touch the input jack!

Any experiences with this?

I have changed batteries, tried every cable, and played thru PA`s, acoustic amps, soundcards and so on.
The problem is constant.

I bought the guitar used in Norway, so I can`t find another Ovation with the same preamp so I could do
a swap to find out if it is the preamp itself..

Hope you have any suggestions, would be greatfull for any help

I read somewhere that if you have a hum that goes away when you touch the strings, bridge, etc. (anything metal in the signal path) that does *not* indicate a grounding problem. There was a whole technical discussion of it, RF interference, ground loops, yadda yadda. Wish I could remember where I came across it, though. =(

Some outlets or entire house outlets can cause 60 cycle hum...? Try another location (outside your house), check your cords to. Also, there are also noise gates you can add to reduce hum...but I would also have the preamp checked if it seems to be everywhere you plug in.

Checked it out at different studios with professional wiring, same problem anywere!

I know my cables are good (tried it with numereous Monster, DiMarzio and Evidence cable)

This is not a noise I could use any sort of gating for unfortunately.

Wish I could locate a similar preamp to put in for checking it out...

Oh, I thought it was a hum noise..white or pink noise.....Try contacting Ovation they helped me with a problem I had with my Elite LX OP-Pro...it turned out to be a problem with the *can* or preamp housing, they sent me a new one which was easy to put in...it had a modification with an added resistor and capacitor. They are very knowledgeable and may know of a solution. Did the previous owner have this problem? However I only had the hum when I recorded into my digital record.
I did have a Fender strat whch had this problem and grounding was bad. The noise gate cut allot of it out. And my tech regrounded the pickup inputs to the jack. Find a local guitar tech if all else fails.

Thanks for your responses!

I`ve mailed Ovation acouple of days ago, so far
no answer.
A couple of guitar techs have looked at it, everything measures OK, and they could not do anything else about it..
