The Beatles. If you were around then, as I was, you might recall thinking, what? Naming a band after an insect? Bands were supposed to have names like The Del-Somethings.

...I always liked the band name "Impacted Earwax", but then I also like the banjo...

...and for the Munchkins from Oz, "Luscious Roo Lips".... quite evocative....

Tell that to Buddy Holly (and the Crickets).

Both the Beatles and The Hollies were tributes to, and recognition of, Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

But this is a great opportunity for horrid band names you've never seen.....

Point is the act, if it's a good one, overcomes whatever silliness the name conjures up on first hearing. Most names sound dumb until the talent behind them provides a different frame of reference.

The Grateful Dead and Rebekkah Goes Swimming are still the two best names ever.

For the new guys, because you old guys have heard it before.
My high school band was... Captain YoYo and the Seadogs.

Rebekkah Goes Swimming is a GREAT name.
As is Without Annette.

We used to play a game in inspection called "How 'bout", where we would try to come up with good, or silly names for bands. I thought up "Dog Stew", and I liked it so much that later when one of my ex's and I formed a duo, that's what we called ourselves. We even had promo posters made with a picture of us sitting on the kitchen floor. I was slicing carrots, and Diamon Joe was holding a glinting knife, about to butcher a friends dog. (We were young, what can I say?)

Is that for worst band or worst name? Certainly the former.

You never heard of Mongoloid Idiots, Neo-natic Fanatics, Tropical Fungus or Rat's of Saint Felix?!!!

Most bands rise and then crash and burn into obscurity.

More like, most bands that rise crash and burn into obscurity.

Most bands never get out of the garage...

Of course "The Band" is either the best or the worst, depending on personal taste.

Yeah, I shudda said, most bands form, and then crash and burn into acrimony. Which is a small town just north of someplace.
