now, i know some of you really hate those import O's but...
i'm having trouble comming up with enough money to buy this one... and it really seems to be exactly what im looking for. It has really great electronics too...
now, i haven't gotten a chance to try it yet ( last time i went to my local shop they only had applause ones... i did try one and it played good (and sounded much better than expected too xD))
surely i will judge by myself once i can try it...
but anyways the price the shop sells it is very good. ( ~550$ CDN)

Location: Phoenix AZ | I think for the most part you have answered your own question (and btw, I do not "hate" the imports). Surely if you compare a CelebDeluxe to a guitar that costs 3-4x as much you will be disappointed. So what? When I compare my 32 inch tube TV to a wide-screen plasma I'm disappointed as well. That's life.
I would suggest you define your price range (which you probably have already done) and go play several different guitars in that range - Ovation and non-Ovation. Pick the one that has the features, feel, sound, looks, etc. that best meets your needs. No way I can tell you if the CelebDeluxe is the one for you or not. If plugged in is a priority for you, in the $500 range you probably won't do much metter than Ovation. If you are looking for acoustic only, go try a Taylor Big Baby. Great sound for the money. |

Location: Upper Left USA | As a previous owner of a 2003 Celebrity Deluxe Limited Edition Honey colored Ovation, as well as someone who usualy has an opinion regardless of the subject, let add my 35 cents Canadian.
The quality control and components of the Celebrity series are below what you will get in a US made Ovation. Less in materials and less "Hand" time from a craftsman. the mahogany is different, laminated tops vice solid and many a satin finish in lieu of multiple layered top coats. I had one that the epaulets were lifted in some areas.
The Celebrity Series is a lot tougher and durable than the US made. They take the heat, the cold, adolescent abuse or whatever! Had a group of kids that kept leaving their black Celeb out in the 110 degee heat and occasional direct sunlight! That would decimate an old Baladeer!
The Ovation design produces a great sounding instrument. Adjustability and uniform tone have set the hook in me.
MHO - If you have $300 bottom feed ebay and come across some excellant Balladeers and early acoustics or buy an entry level new Celebrity. If you have $400-$600 get a special looking Celebrity with cool electronics or a used Legend or Elite. If you have $800-$1,000 jump into a new LX or used Adamas or unique used US Ovation.
If where you need to go and what you want to do will be tough on the guitar go for the Celeb (or Applause). When the time and money come for collecting different flavors, look for the USA Ovations.
I would pick a basic Celebrity over a box guitar most any day. |

well, ebay is really not somthing i can go into... my brother wasen't careful and get caught for 500$ (dumbass bidded on a dude with 4 rating...)
and it really is a good thing that celebs can take a beating cause im VERY clumsy.. :( just lately i got a piece of finish off my acoustic guitar.
I'm getting a new guitar so i have cutaway and A/E
(btw... i will check other guitars in the $$ range for sure... but i still think that what the celeb lacks in acoustic sound, the electric sound makes up for it (and the very nice looks too xD))

it is only a slight bit pricier than the celebrity deluxe...

Welcome to the board, and you have said some very practical things about choosing a guitar for your own use. I have played for years and have had plywood guitars (the usual difference between high end and Celebritys) that I found were fine for playing gigs, amplified they sounded fine and they were tough and inexpensive enough to cut down on the worry of being stolen or broken. At home, I play my "good" guitars that I have had for over 30 years and now would never take to a bar or jam session that I was not sure of. If they sound good and you can afford them, they are fine. After you become an addict then give up your family and start collecting. I say that as I played for years with my two sons and couldn't afford to buy them all Martins, so we played what was cheap and sounded good (Yamaki acoustics, modified Epiphone Gibson copy bass with a real Gibson bridge and Schaller tuners, cheap plywood acoustic/electric cutaway that sounded great plugged in etc.).

Location: USA | I have a celeb and an adamas. As i like to say the celeb is a very good guitar. The Adamas is a great guitar. But its also like comparing apples to oranges,ts all in the eyes and hands of the beholder.
My finding with the celeb is, its has more of twang/bright sound The adamas a deep/smoothe sound
The celeb is tricky getting in tune but when you do its fine. When string life starts to fade on the celeb it does not stay in tune and kind of lets you know its time to change them.
The adamas once is tune stays in tune even when the strings go flat. You cant go wrongas long as its an ovation...plug plug.. :cool:
I utilize my celeb for practice and use the Adamas for the stage.

| ..i must be too old school, or old fart, old geezer, but i cannot imagine paying that much ($500) for any celebrity...just be patient and get a usa O'....

is there even a truss rod in the celebrity deluxe models ???
and if so where is it and how can we adjust it??
cause well i don't really want a guitar without a truss rod now come on.....

Location: Upper Left USA | The truss rod is there it is adjustable from the other end of the neck. Pull the back plate on the multi-holes and via the one hole in the one-holers.
If you miss having a truss rod cover you can still put one on there. My suggestion of course would be a Gen-u-wine (see older threads) Glen Campbell TRC or a reversible exotic wood TRC - now expanded to include matching solid body pickguards and Tornado cover plates!

ive just bought it =D
a great looking (and damn great sounding) vintage flames celebrity deluxe
i really see why this board exists... it is the most... unique sounding instrument ive heard as of yet and in a very good way...
as soon as i heard it i was really in love...
only problem is that id like to lower the action a little but i don't wanna go in that saddle without knowing what im doing really... so where are these "shims" in a thinline pickup??

Thinlines are simple. Shims sit under the piezo saddle thingy.
You will get the hang of easily, in fact, you will wonder why other makers aren't using the sdame methods. Ovations are well Engineered. |

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but that's the same as my very first O (of what is about to become a family of eight). Always wondered what the colour was - the closest I could ever find that sounded right was either Wine Burst or Autumn Burst.
Plays like a dream - we've been together (in a manner of speaking) for nine years now, and been through a lot. If mine is any benchmark, that will see you for years, and probably start some form of addiction...
I've never seen another this colour, so I'm feeling really glowy now!
