well, s/n 62 is all better. the wire from the pick up to the preamp had its end connector cover (at the preamp) come unscrewed. just had to reach in, slide the little cover back up the wire and screw it tight.
so here is my 1.5 cents worth, I love the tuner, very smooth, very easy to use. fit and finish is A+ ( loose wire cover not withstanding). tone and feel of custom legend, but sound seems a little more woody and projected. It is easy for me to finger chords, but neck does not seem wide. It is comfortable.
Overall, the guitar is easy to forget once I'm playing. Which I mean as a compliment. I just start playing and am not held back by guitar, just my skill level.
The contour bowl is comfortable and sounds more like a deep bowl then a mid bowl to me at least. englemen wood grain looks nice now and seems like it will age into a shimmery flame sort of pattern (s). I have not plugged in for electric test yet. If this is what spruce sounds like with a contour bowl, I am excited for a carbon top contour bowl.
Final judgement, even though i pre-ordered from local dealer the day before I found OFC (and hence Al) and paid local taxes, I am 100% happy with this purchase. job well done to New Hartford. mike |

Location: Anchorage, Alaska | I agree with fugot with his review. I find the 2005 very easy to finger chords as well. I found that my fingers are getting pretty sore like I just started playing again? I thought it might be due to this thing just calling out to be played, I have added an hour or 2 to my dfaily playing time since I got it last week. Then I read in another thread that the frets are higher on the LX's (which the 2005 has)than other "O's" and that was the cause of fingers that were a little sorer than usual. Whatever it is it's great and I love it. The sound is much brighter than my Al DiMeola and like I said, plays much "cleaner" for me. As far as looks, Simple elegance pretty much says it all. The grain on mine is so fine that from 3 or 4 feet away it looks more like ivory than wood. Beautiful. When I plugged it in to my Genz-Benz to check it out I was amazed. My wife came into my music room to see which guitar I was playing and when she looked at me she just started to laugh. She said I had a look on my face that looked like I just had great sex! That's one hell of a guitar!!! |

Location: Phoenix AZ | One thing I do notice about the 05C is that (at least on mine) the string spacing is a little tight at the nut. The nutwidth is the usual 1-11/16, but there is a pretty big gap on the outside between the high E string and the edge of the fretboard and low E and edge of the fretboard. Seems most of my other Ovations and Martins the E strings are a lot "closer to the edge" so to speak. Anyone else notice this? The only time it is an issue is on occasion I'll go to finger the low E with my thumb and won't quite hit it "right". But still 3 weeks into the process I'm loving the guitar big time. |

Hanging next to the 30th Anniv CL and the 1537...measured the same on bass and treble sides.
Something I did for the first time when I got it, capoed the 12th fret...tuner showed that it was perfect.
So, any fault in the song can only be blamed on the player. |

Location: Toronto | #106 is in my possession and I'm one happy camper. Every positive thing I've read so far - i agree with - except for the sore fingers. I find the '05 actually easier on my fingers than any other guitar I've played.
I ordered mine from Al - and he is indeed a true gentleman - Thanks Al!

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | I just got to try a Collector's '05 in Samash Saturday. Had a serious buzz in the bridge, so I'm going to hold off on first impression of the sound til my next shot at playing one. The bowl design was very comfortable though.
I was shocked to find one at Samash already. The acoustic room staff guy didn't even know they had it in! I was describing all the new features to my friend who was trying out an Elite standard LX (and was loving it!), and asked the staff guy if they had any new '05s in...he said no. About 15 mintues later I stumbled on it.
I hope I get to try another one soon.
Just for kicks I tried a $3,000 dollar Taylor twelve string...after one strum, my love for Ovation was totally reaffirmed.

I wonder if the buzz was from another loose preamp wire connector cover? You can look into soundhole and see where wire is connected to preamp. It should have a litte black cover over the solder connection, if you can see the solder connection, there's the problem. It's a easy fix. Loosen up strings, reach in, slide connector up and rescrew connector back on.
I played my 2005 es today through small PA. It sounds great. Projects well and keeps it's tone well. electronics are easy to use. I miss notch filter from op-40 preamp, but that's me.
Also, for a skinny guy like me, I m sort of feeling like the contour bowl is not as comfortable as a mid depth bowl. Top of contour sort of sticks into me. I am still making judgements though. All in all, It is the ax that keeps getting picked up. ............mike |
