They were modeled after the little wooden pogs (although I don't think they called'em pogs back then.)Originally posted by Waskel They plan to finish connecting it to I-8 in San Diego when the get around to it... They were pictured on a headstock, closeup of the tuners only. Shipping was a couple of bucks high but the price was OK. The box arrived larger and heavier than I expected. Inside was the headstock with the tuners still mounted. Nice set of older "Made in W Germany" Schallers. The guitar was an "American Acoustech". I won't be bidding on those tuners on Ebay any time soon though. -Steve W.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend of ours invited us over to help ourselves to whatever we wanted from her garage that she didn't want to take on her move to Fla. Found two old type cases (one Bodoni and a Galliard). Said she bought 'em years ago when it was all the craze fill 'em with "curio's", put a piece of glass on top and make an end table out of 'em . . . I laid the thing out in front of me and could ALMOST remember how to "run" the damn thing (aMAZEing the sh!t y'don't forget!). Took 'em both. Gonna hang one on the wall of the MusicRoom and start a collection of guitar slides . . .

I miss the days of technical pen ink on the back of my left index finger, cuts from scalpel blades, french curves, paintbrushes, rubylith, illustration board, wax, rubber cement (mmmmm. rubber cement fumes), airbrush overspray, stat cameras and PMT's, on and on

Is that for real? How is it that the island has no snakes. I thought it was a tropical region which would lend itself to snakes. If I fell into the "fools" trap, then pat yourself on the back cause you had me going. If true, please elaborate.

From what I understand, the only one that has been introduced (accidentally) is the 'blind snake' which looks more like a worm and eats insects which are also not native.

Joined: October 2006 Posts: 5576 Location: big island | stephen, hawaii is the most remote land mass on earth. when the undersea volcanoes that formed hawaii finally broke through the ocean's surface, there were no life forms. the only way life forms could get here would be to drift from some other land mass across the ocean on an old log or something similar. birds from other areas were probably blown off course during a storm and ended up here, their droppings containing seeds they had eaten which sprouted. any other life forms had to be introduced over the centuries. captain cook is noted in history for "discovering" the "sandwich isles" but his ships are known to have brought cockroaches, rats, mice, mosquitoes, centipedes and spiders. his men brought venereal disease and measles which decimated the hawaiian population. snakes were never introduced to the islands. if you wanna see a snake here, ya gotta go to the zoo. every once in a while someone will find a boa or python or some other pet snake that was brought in illegaly. who ever had it feared getting caught so they let it go or the snake escaped. there is a minimum $10,000 fine if someone is caught bringing a snake in or keeping one. hawaii fears that what happened in guam will happen here. it is rare to see a bird in guam. the brown tree snake, which is non-poisonous, has eradicated the bird population in guam. sometimes brown tree snakes will stowaway on planes from guam. the planes that land from there are under close supervision and any snakes found are destroyed. hawaii is too far from any other land for snakes that can swim to make it here. i recall back in the early 70's the coast guard spotted a major swarm of snakes swimming towards hawaii probably from japan area. they were about 1500 miles out. it seems the navy got involved and actually blew them up with some depth charges. we ain't got skunks, squirrels, or armadilloes either. we do have plenty wild pig, a few deer, some feral goats, some feral donkeys, lotsa wild chickens. the mongoose was introduced to some of the islands here many decades ago to help rid the rodent. you can go to kaua'i and see wild chickens all over the place cuz mongoose aren't there. seems the mongoose are more effective at chicken exterminating than at rat patrolling. we've got mongoose here on big island and not many wild chickens. hawaii is on the top of the list for having the world's most threatened and close to extinction species of birds and plants. the government is very careful of protecting the endangered species which is why visitors here have to complete a detailed disclosure list on the plane before disembarking.
