It was #5's birthday, and on top of that he is playing on a baseball team that is trying to play their way into the Big League World Series later this month. Last night, the team played in a "win or go home" game at the state championship level. #5 is a pitcher, and on this team of stars he doesn't get field time in other positions, despite his talent. But due to a confluence of events, a couple of players had to leave the game with two outs in the final inning with a couple of runners on and the good guys clinging to a one run lead. A new second baseman was inserted and #5 was put into right field. One pitch later, the batter rocketed a ball into deep right center field where #5 could not quite chase it down for the final out, but alertly caught it on a rebound off the brick wall, fired a rocket back to the infield where it was relayed by the new second baseman to the catcher who applied the tag on the runner for the final out and the opportunity to move on towards a championship. It was a stunning moment. So how could I NOT put this one up today? Right Field - bobbo, gallerinski, cliff and debanjo This was filmed by Tim in Tidewater at the OFC Jam Night at the Matt Smith clinic on Amelia Island back in 2008. You can hear a lot of your OFC friends in the background ... and I had a blast doing this with Dave, Cliff and Steve. Until tomorrow ...

I'd love to follow the events, if televised. I normally don't root for Kali teams, but I could make an exception this time; as long as they're not playing a non-Miami team from Florida... Again, thanx for the great SOTD thread!

I was a pitcher and my best claim to fame was that I once struck out Lou Brock (and he almost neutered me the next time at bat). Back in '77! There were some summers when I was in amateur ball that they needed to put me somewhere...cause we had just barely nine players. So, I played right-field. I know the "right-field" feeling very well! GREAT song!

It reminds me of the days growing up playing softball in Milwaukee. I met Hank Aaron back then before he was famous. Guess what position he played?

I'm not sure where I first heard him do this song ... it could have been at the Acoustic Cafe at NAMM. But for sure it whacked me when he did it at the Frisky Mermaid show in Fernandina Beach at what was known as Amelia2. This version is off the album Meet The Monstas ... a must have recording. If you don't have it, go over to mattsmithsworld.com and get it. While you're there, pick up his ChopShop and BigFun discs too. You won't be sorry. While we can all attest that Matt Smith is a player's player, who can seemingly play any style of music on any stringed instrument with style, panache, and beauty, I am always blown away by his talents as a vocalist. Simply amazing. You HAVE to see him live. Put that one in your bucket list. Ladies and gentleman, the one and only Matt Smith. Jesus in Mexico - Matt Smith Hey Matt! Miss you, brother. Hope life is good in Austin. Stay cool.

Let's go back to the first OFC CD ... to a track that is nothing short of phenomenal. I remember hearing the song and wondering why I didn't know there were all these pro players out there in OFC land. Another well produced, well-played, well-sung original track. Any Room in Heaven? - Sleepy Eyes McGee I know someone here has to have a picture of Sleepy Eyes around. I met him at one or two OFC factory tour jams and he is just plain one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Listen up and then come back tomorrow for more tasty goodies.

After we heard a few songs, SWMBO said, "Gee, some of those guys are REALLY good!" No kidding. We have a few real pros, some that were pros and some that should be pros. And one of us that likes to hang out with the pros hoping something will rub off.

It's the thrill of seeing an artist perform the song in a coffee house ... where there is nothing between you and the singer/songwriter. Where gizmos, gadgetry and gimmicks are non-existent ... the only things that matter are the lyrics, the tune, and the player. It's where most of us live day in and day out. There are few however who can tell a story where the images form in our mind, and we transcend everything around us to wind up in the place where the singer/songwriter has created for our pleasure. Such is the case here ... where I can see the bottles, feel the acceleration, hear the words coming from kimby-d, taste the ribs and chicken, and smell the brazilian. While there might be temptation, there is no guilt. So savor this one. I guarantee it'll keep popping into your head at all the right moments. Today's Song-O-Th'Day is from the MNO Vol. 3 CD: Temptation - Mauvais Beal Until the next time. Play.
