Oh wait, you said PARTIAL trade ??? Oh, crap. Well the truth is that I'd probably play your slothead a lot more than I play this T-head. Btw, did you notice that I posted your vibration plot on my website? Dave

FMIC will reissue with a Fender embossed pickguard in yellow ochre. Any of the a/e Ovations serviced by the factory will have an acoustic style pickguard affixed, also embossed yellow ochre. Their marketing team sees this as a way to affect the market of pre-Fender O's and push buyers to their new product.

I always figured most of these are known enough that there would be a buyer waiting. $9k seems a fair price considering how high some others seemed to go for on Ebay in the past. But hey what do I know I still have not sold my Custom Legend so the market might be different now. Sure wish I could swing it, always wanted to play one of these. Good luck Randy

They were asking $825. See if they get anything close. As far as the Slothead, as much as I'd like to have it, I can't justify it. Besides the OFC guitar, we just bought a new car. Somehow it was easier to talk my wife into that than it was to talk her into any of the guitars. Different priorities.

Certainly a great guitar to own but this #45 Slothead is the "Holy Grail" and to the collector and true Ovation "NUT" that is in most of us on this site. It's The ultimate ovation guitar to own. Value should always hold quite well and continue to increase, it will always be like a 1950's Strat to a Fender "NUT". Not that it matters...I am just surprised. I still need a baritone and nothing short of an Adamas will do anymore. God the GAS never stops. I am hoping to finally have some things recorded and even send a few to You Tube. Have a nice little trio going and some of the stuff sounds real good. One strong original and working on a second. Not going anywhere with it but we are having fun. Learning more about getting some more up to date sounds from the Adamas's. And Wow how recording music has changed........Still on a learning curve but getting it. Nice Acoustic Zepplin/Tull set.... We have some Rush sounding pretty good......Took me three hard months of non stop practice to learn Red Barchetta on bass, vocals and I share the pedal work with my guitar wizard Aaron becauise I just can't do all three yet..Man that Geedy Lee is a genius. We have an 8 minute WHO medley that is pretty solid and have decided to do some more bands in this way. Three piece is fun but man you have to be real tight and there is so much stuff I want to do from Floyd that needs the Keys and I can't do the pedals for anything complicated so we are looking to go 4 piece if the right keyboardist comes along. Have no time to check this site much lately but good to see the groups still getting together. I really would like to do a Jam session or especially a class with Matt if one comes up in the Northeast again. Randy

Joined: January 2005 Posts: 4903 Location: Phoenix AZ | I almost hate to bring this up, but the thought has crossed my mind ... Is is possible that the 47RI and the OFC Guitar have depressed the market value of the originals a bit? I freaking hope not! But seriously, I am absolutely dumbfounded that there has been an original slothead on the block for a month and that Ovation fans are not tripping over themselves to get it!!! And don't go blaming it on the economy or my president, etc. That BS. If someone wants something bad enough they'll find the cash. But maybe there are only so many people in the world who would drop $5k on a roundback guitar and the 125 or so combined "slotheads" have met that demand? I don't know. It just seems odd that something that everyone wants is available but nobody is buying. Colins guitar is stunning and a true collectors guitar in every sense of the word. Am I way off base ??? I'd love to pull the trigger on this and maybe I should "fire" sale the rest of my collection and make it happen cos as you say this almost never happens that an opportunity like this presents itself....might just sleep on that thought...but in the meantime anyone want to peruse the list below and make any reasonable offers towards the save #45 campaign?

In addition, some like myself would have been potential bidders or buyers of the original. I got the 47RI because I did not think the OFC would be built (and my obscenely low bid that was accepted). Then, as I had already bought the rights to OFC #7 and someone said "Tony, there is no way you are not getting an OFC" - the second slothead came to San Diego. So, the reissues at least eliminated me from the buyer list. If no 47RI or OFC, I would have bought this one already. To those who might want a slothead in the future...I doubt if special/custom order slotheads will be available. With all of the supposition about the sale, wonder if the Adamas Custom Shop would even take an order. The 47RI and the OFC will go up in value, the originals will go up a lot. Combine that with the fact that this one is worth more than the asking price. It will be real interesting to see what is offered at NAMM in two months.
