Sounds good, Gh1. At this point, I'm just trying to gather dates/times (via PM) when people know they could or can't make it. My plan is to compile that all together and offer up the top 2 or 3 weekends that seem "most available" for further discussion.

Not likely I'll be able to cut loose so finalize your plan and I'll see what can be done.

It sounds like fun!

I'm gonna side with GH1. You all pick the place and date, if I can do it, I'll be there!

June's not good for me. I have 'my ride' halfway talked into playing chaufeur for the trip. (weather dependant, of course.)Also dependant on him taking a day off from his veterinary practice....but nothing's impossible.

So pick a date and we'll see what the weather looks like between here and there when it happens!

I swear I posted last night, but it's not here. It sounds like McCall will be too far for most of you although you are welcome. I will be in Portland the first 3 weekends in August and could probably link up on any of the 3 Saturday nights. I have to check the Porsche Parade schedule. Driving the Boxster for the first 2 weekends and hauling all my daughter's junk to school on the 3rd will severely limit my ability to haul guitars, but there are plenty in Portland.

An August road trip could work for me. Bit of a drive, but we used to do it waaaaay back in the U. Vic. days, just for a beer run. (You can drink American beer while writing exams and it doesn't affect the outcome.)

When I lived in Western Kansas, we drove 110 miles and back one evening on a school night, just because we heard they had one of the first air hockey tables in a bar there. Somehow we found the bar, played air hockey, drank beer and made it back that night. I think we were in a 69 Mustang, so the drive didn't take long. Gas was probably a tenth of the cost it is now, though.

Okay, if we can herd 5 or 6 cats onto one of these two weekends, we're making progress...

A) August 5th/6th in Portland (venue TBD)
B) August 19th/20th in Portland (venue TBD)
C) Either
D) None of the above

I don't think anything involving me and guitars should have the word "Great" in it. Saturday August 5 is best for me. I just found out from SWMBO that August 19 is when the family is celebrating my Mother's 80th birthday. Anyone want to provide the music?

Only if she's hard of hearing.

My mother's hearing is still quite good as is her voice. She's not bad on piano, either. Any musical abilities I have would have to have come from her. Dad's more of the "what I lack in quality, I'll make up for in volume" type.
She always said I had a nice voice, but that's a mother talking. She is a pretty good critic, though. She correctly stated that the rendition of "Beautiful" by Gordon Lightfoot that I did at our wedding wasn't a very good match for my voice.

I'd make a good honest stab at either w/e in Portland. (If the microbrew festival is on at the same time I'd have extra incentive.....)

Hell of a plan!

Doubt SWMBO or my clients would apreciate the effort though. I disappear as much as possible already!

Ummm....I'm about 500 -600 miles (and a ferry ride) from anything that will happen~! At least a 10 hour drive.

Good news! SWMBO is very positively disposed toward a road trip to Portland in August.

Should it come to pass.

August...

Sometime in August the (Unofficial) Tacoma Guitar Fanclub will be having a Factory Tour and get together.

I intend to bother some contacts that are Tacoma and Ovation Dealers and see what possibilities for a local jam/Gathering can be concocted!

More to follow!

At least they let you drive 70 on the Interstate in Washington. With the Porsche Club annual meeting in Portland in August, I'm sure the law will be out strictly enforcing the ridiculous 65 mph limit on the Interstates in Oregon and the tickets are expensive. As JeffreyD can attest, there is no reason to drive that slowly across most of Oregon.

Just don't break a hundred! Under a new Oregon law, speeders caught exceeding 100 mph automatically face fines over $1,100 and a mandatory license suspension of up to 90 days. Double the speed limit and go to jail. There's been a rash of speeders in the Portland area so they are tightening the screws. Of course, outside of the metro area you're probably safe, as there are so few OSP troopers funded these days that you'll likely never see one.

Is it still illegal to smoke pot in Oregon? I heard you get a fine for that.....

....not that I do that anymore. The 'stoopid' hangover lasts too long.

Yes, welcome to Oregon, the only state where you can legally take your own life, but you aren't allowed to pump your own gasoline!

Not sure all the rules.. you can grow it, sell it, and smoke it for medicinal purposes, but you have to have a perscription and register with the state or something.

So far, all the signs point towards August 5th/6th as the weekend of choice. I'll do a little snooping around for venues... anybody have any suggestions? I'm not really in a position to host.
