I've got three different lyric ideas started so far for this thing. And I DO plan on being drunk in sync with the event....just for the sense of connection.

Waiting for melody(ies) to inspire/instigate more writing. I'm looking for a break from 'sell copy' after the holiday/post-holiday rush.

Phil, Cubase is acting up (for some reason not receiving a signal from the control desk) but I will get something worked up to send your way today even if I have to go from reel to reel and then convert to mp3!

Ricardo, I think you meant "nunc est bibendum". (and forever is a long time!)

.... from another thread....
A few of the songs I plan to have polished up for the Amelia thing:

Tattoo
Brandy
Wonderful World
Two of Us

Then there is all the NEW stuff I'm gonna walk away with.

With a group as small as this one we might even have time to put a little effort into a tune or two and sound pretty good together.

SUCKER! I knew you would say that.

I suppose that means I need to sing the bridge also?

If we play on baritones, no problem.

We might have to recruit Cliffy to hit some highs (and I don't mean new levels of tequila intoxication) on a standard tuned guitar.

You guys learning it in the original key?

I'll sing the bridge.
Or better yet, let's both sing it in the hopes that it averages out to something close to accurate.
Brian & I have been tuned down a half step lately but going up to concert should not be to bad.

Thanks for the pic.

Here's the song I have for tonight. I had some fun with it. You'll notice that the cap words are the topics from now till April, hence the title. I figured I'd just keep using it till I place.

From Now Till April by Bill Kaman 1/21/08

I’m sitting by this RIVER
Waiting for my SOUTHERN GIRL
Don’t know if she’s coming
Or if she’s left this world

She is my ADDICTION
I love her more than life
She is my CANDY
So I DIVORCED my wife

And the NEON sign
Keeps on flashing
In my mind
Can’t help but wonder
What it’s saying
This time

I’m off to the CARABBIAN
Lots of BLONDS down that way
If I ever get my fill
I may come back SOMEDAY

You know it’s not a HARD LIFE
Drinking on the beach
I hope the WIND will blow my southern girl
Back within my reach

And the neon sign
Keeps on flashing
In my mind
Can’t help but wonder
What it’s saying
This time

I’m sitting by this river
Waiting for my southern girl

O.k., let me get the rules straight. Some lyrics that incorporate these key words, set to some original music? That all?

Tonight's topic is Southern Girl.
That's pretty well covered in that tune.
Neon is pretty well covered too.

The others are a stretch, but I've seen tunes place that had no "close" relation to the topic. My addiction song is posted somewhere else here on the OFC, the 12 Frets of GAS. You have to keep in mind that the judges are usually people who have not been to these before. That way they're fresh, but often clueless and sometimes quite drunk since they drink for free. They can be guests at the B&B or people who just show up.

I always keep in mind that there is only one thing more amature that us performing, and that's the judges. Win, place or show is nice for the recognition, but the real fun is in just doing it and seeing the crowd reaction. If people get too competitive about it it's not fun anymore, especially for them.

Here's one for all the divorced guys in the audience....

If I blew my brains out on a windy day
Would you stand down wind
Just to feel the spray?
'Cause you - seem to suck the life
Right out of me.....

There's no shortage of lyrics. Just time and inspiration. (though inspiration is HIGHLY over-rated)

Just have to slog through two more verses of the thing I sent you. There's a couple other ideas. But I like to have an ending before I start the beginning.

if you don't know where you're going
Any road will take you there

George Harrison

Got a boring meeting tonight. Maybe I'll write while I pretend to scan my copy of Roberts Rules of Order....

I thought you seemed fairly normal for a Canadian. That sounds a bit morbid. You sure you're alright?

Well, I could almost see this one coming. I get called first(kiss of death) and it's no problem, I can play this for the next 10 weeks.
I get second.
Good thing I have a song for next week. After that I may take a few off and work on Wind.
