Well you guys wanted GAS. So make it "I got GAS, and when I get it bad, my wife gets the wind, a cold chilly wind blowin through the house, but I don't care, I love my guitars"

Or something like that

Just be glad you don't have to come up with something for almost every week! But it's usually like this, I look at the list and say this is terrible! and then whittle away at it and before long I've thrown out a week or two and have a bunch of pretty good songs.

Think medium to up tempo, Jimmy Buffay with an extra quart or two of country stirred in.
The serious, selfexamination of my navel songs don't get it. If you're over 4 minutes the judges tend to go to sleep. Bring 3 copies of the lyrics for the judges

Then there's Darby, he knows 2 chords but tries to play several more. Occasionally he's in tune. He is alot like Wild Man Fisher, aka Larry Fisher that Zappa produced back in the late 60's. Occasional rhymes with strange time signatures and I've already described the guitar side of it. He's a crowd favorite! Usually he gets half way through his warmup tune and just quits and says, "That's enough, here's my competition song" He even got fourth prize once. OK, it's true there were only 4 people there that night. I really enjoy him, but I'm not sure Loraine can grasp the concept of his music. He's a really nice guy too.

There can be a warm up song if you want one. Anything is OK, covers, originals, instrumentals. You can have others join you. There is a music stand there to hold the words while you're singing. House PA with 5 mikes and 4 direct inputs. I can bring a bass and amp if somebody wants to back others up.

It usually is a very good time, just remember that there is only one thing more amature than us performers, and that's the judges, they try for new ones every week, fresh ears if you know what I mean. So if you win, it's a bonus, the payoff is in doing it.

crumple, crimple, toss, plunk...
That's the sound of the ideas for "The Zephyr Wind" hitting the trash can.
Probably better off anyway.

Nah, drinking coffee and trying to wake up. "I'm on my second cup of coffee, and I still can't taste the day".

Trying to decide if I should go to San Diego today on a research project or put it off until next week....

I've been working on my "Wind" song. Here's the first verse ...

"Well I met her in the house and we did it on the floor. And the wind from her ass blew the cat out the door."

How am I doing ???

O.k., I like songs and ballads that tell stories, including those spoken ala Ray Stevens and CW McCall. So in that vein, here's an original work in progress that I just threw together (still need to add a refrain and rewrite a verse to create a bridge, but text is about complete):

I was riding one night on Hwy 50,
Into rain and cold, and a wind real drifty.
Getting real tired, barely stayin’ awake,
I needed to stop and take a break.

At least three hours had nearly passed
Since drinkin’ a cup and topping the gas.
In ten more miles, so said the map,
I’d be off this hill and takin’ a nap.

But what was that I felt down low?
A cough? A sputter? I sure didn’t know.
Whatever it was, it couldn’t be right
‘Cause that motor was wheezin’ right there in the night.

Reaching the crest I saw lights ahead,
When all of a sudden that bike went dead.
Beyond the shoulder in the mud and slop
Is where I slowed and pulled to a stop.

I said to myself, “This burns my ass,
How in hell did I run out of gas?”
Lucky for me, I started to chuckle,
I carry some extra, and went for the buckle.

Reaching down in the saddlebag
I found the bottle along with a rag.
I knew I had to exercise care
‘Cause fighting that wind was a helluva bear.

I squared myself on top of the seat
And tried to protect the gas from the sleet,
From the top of the tank, I removed the cap
But as I poured, it went straight in my lap.

An extra liter was all I could pack
And most of that was now burnin’ my sack.
I’d gotten some in, but would it be enough?
Could I make it to town? S’gonna be tough.

It coughed and choked, but the Harley fired
And a second later, the throttle I wired.
Within just a few, I rolled into the Shell.
My nightmare was over, I was out of hell.

The moral of this story told,
Is to never pour gas in the wind and cold.
But if you do, its best to remember
Wear waterproof gear to cover your member.

Even if a bump is technically concidered a minor infraction of board rules, this is a good one.
With the holidays over the end of March is not very far away.

Now since we're here, how is everyone doing on a song for the Frisky Mermaid???
I've got a title and a hook now I have to flesh out the meat of it. I'm trying keep the chords simple and the words clever rather than ponderious and deep. Easy chords... clever lyrics.. looks like the first song I write is going to sound more like a country tune than the latest Townshend effort.

I've got one and maybe two instrumentals planned. Anybody who wants to join me with a bass and/or rhythm guitar is welcome.

Now the contest starts at 8:30. We can get there and start playing at 7 or so. Then while the judges are out tabulating people get up and jam for 15 minutes or so. Then the 3 winners play again and then it's back open to whomever for however long you want to go.

One of the usual winners is usually in that state by 8:30. So?
