We haven't seen rain in several days. Until today it hasn't been over 75 (day) or under 65 (night). Lisa works at Farmers Markets and has gotten sun-burned. Mount Vernon, is in a "rain shadow" so essentially if you see a forecast for rain in Seattle, we stay home in Mount Vernon, and plan bike rides or go on one where it's nice a cool and dry. I actually fill my pond from a hose from June until September. Only 20 miles away in Arlington it probably rains 300 days out of the year. I know of no one that actually uses an umbrella in the rain here, because it's not the Rain that I'm sure yuou are thinking of, we rarely see that ANYWHERE in Washington, except maybe toward where MWoody lives. Rain in the daylight, is more of a heavy misting/light rain, the stuff that wouldn't even make the weather report on the east coast. Those "light morning rains" you get in jersey... They call those DOWN POUR here. I think it's hilarious actually. So here's what to pack... Other than what I've normally seen you pack for Florida or NAMM, I'd ads a medium/light jacket that is water resistant and a sweatshirt. Of course we have extra.. and plenty of stores..but really... we wear t-shirts.. if it gets a little chilly, on comes the Sweatshirt or the light Jacket or a combination. And most imporatantly.. SOCKS WITH SANDALS!!! Oh.. whoops.. that's Portland.. :)

Honestly, can't remember when it rained last. It might have last week one night. Rains all around us. I can see it. I think it rains in the early morning sometimes.. but I don't see that either. :)Rainshadow? Mount Vernon? 10 inches more annual rainfall than Oak Harbor/Coupeville. We stopped sending them pictures of mowing the lawn in February and the annual April 1 Tulip count in the 70's. It just makes more of them come. Play up the rain, weirdo eccentricities, and remoteness. Damn it men, Pull Up The Drawbridge!

I suppose there's a town there too. I recommend that everyone move there. On the other hand, I visted Quadra Island and it was miserable and rainy.

They say it's "all about the journey"... well if this event is half as much fun as the preparation, it should be a good time had by all.

Neither I nor Lisa will be available until very late Thursday evening, however... There is a stellar fireworks show on the 3rd at Big Lake (right next to Mount Vernon). I will find out where non-residents can watch from. It's quite the site. The fire department runs it, and you give them a donation as you arrive. I will post details tomorrow sometime.
