Paul,
I'm with you on this one.

I have resisted commenting on this thread because I know my post would be truly inflammatory.

When humility, humor and the ability to HEAR and ACCEPT what is true for others, is lost to proving yourself right... people tend to stop listening to you anyway...so what's the point?

Again

someone tries to sell a slothead the holy grail of Adamas guitars and I have to beg people to post on the thread.

An off topic threads gets a gazillion responses and only causes bad feelings between members.

I have to be honest. I asked miles to start an off topic section. He does not want to do it. I feel it is necessary because of the familiarity of this group.

maybe I should just pull the plug on this message board and end MY misery.

What I think is most unfortunate is the total lack of value a serious debate has today. I love a good debate for it's information value. No question that I have my opinions - right, wrong AND indifferent, I'm sure. But the first time someone says "Ok, THIS is how it is and if you feel differrently, you're wrong", the value is lost. It'd be great if we could all just "be friends" and respect other's wishes but you have to hear them before you can respect them. Discussion enlightens, everybody, whether it's about guitars, religion or politics.

Deleted my post to (hopefully) avoid any more responses. I sincerely appologize for starting this. I thought we were having good spirited debate here (like martin vs. ovation), but it turned hateful and prejudiced. That's too bad. Dave

That was the original post I did not mean to start such a problem. So to everyone I am deeply sorry. It wont happen again.

To the executive committe: Bulletin Board should be split in three parts, anything ovation, 2, anything music and 3, anything else, like this.

I sure hope you guys didn't get too offended. It was not my intension. However I will defend God if the need arises....and it did.
I see no reason for separate threads for off-topics. We're all adults here and can choose to read or not read whatever someone posts. I like to hear what others think, likes and dislikes, jokes and even politics. I think this is what makes the Ovation Fan Club one of the best E-clubs on the web. Just look around and see all the ridiculous sites out there. Those who choose to chat here are really a good bunch of men and women (yes even Al).

I think everyone did just fine...

Don't care about the thread, ignore it...have something to say, fine. What I see is respect for the others' opinions, even if you don't agree.

If Ovation didn't make such wierd and wonderful guitars the board wouldn't attract such wierd and wonderful people. Let's blame w2 and his dad.

One of the things that needs to be pointed out here is just how little conflict there really is compared to other fan clubs out here. As was pointed out in another thread, try having discussions on the Martin board about Ovations and watch the fighting begin!

That is so true I asked a question on the Acoustic guitar board about Ovations. And world war three began and they resorted to name calling. Then someone sent me here and sweet salvation. That is why I now own an O

This is probably the single most offensive statement I have ever had the displeasure to read on this board, and is typical of you self-righteous god-botherers.

As a fellow human being I respect your inalienable right to belive in anything you choose to believe in. Please extend me the same courtesy and repect my right & the the right of millions of other athiests on the planet not to believe, and leave your preaching where it belongs, off the OFC.

Was it Voltaire who initially said "I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."?

A constitutional right of Americans, no? That certainly applies to me in this instance because I am neither an athiest nor what I would think Mr Bentman would call a "believer" but have no issue discussing either.

Well the good thing about this thread is it got Temp out of the closet (no Cliff & Dave, not that closet). and back on the board. I'd say that it shows that even for athestist, religon can be a good thing.

My folks are born again Christians. Dad preaches it. Couldn't sell water to a man in the desert dying of thirst (but would be the first to go get the man). Mom lives it. People meet here and believe that their lives have been changed.

Let's stop preaching about it and start living it.

I have no issue disscusing religion, politics, sex, Michael Jacksons court case or the size & consistency of the dump I took this morning. It's just that I would choose not to discuss any of those subjects on this particular board. Apart from the dump, if anyone's interested.

This offends me. I'm not "self righetous" at all. In fact, as a fellow human left to my own devices, I fail miserably at being righetous. Unless someone randomly offers their life in place of mine, neither can anyone else in my eyes. I also cannot go around living up to anyone elses expections, as no one is perfect, right?
