Joined: December 2004 Posts: 1673 Location: SoCal | Well... I was a jock back in school. When the teacher called on me and asked if I had the answer, I always replied, "no... ah... " and then they called on someone else. Only joking. I was a straight A student in college. Since we got together in college, Cindy and I have always had Mastiffs and cats. When we could afford a vehicle big enough to comfortably lug around two mastiffs, we got license plates that said NoasArk (only 7 letters allowed). I piloted the ark, so that made me noah.

Hearing your name being used as an historical T.V. character must have been cool....for about five an a half minutes. Sorry to confirm the sterotype but when I saw your name I wondered if it was Trek related. Again, sorry to pile on like that.

Bentman Oh, my handle reflects what I use my O's for, and the calling that the Lord finally laid on my life after 20 years in Corporate America. No, I don't make as much money now, but I'm sure that I won't die as young ... and the fringe benefits are outa sight!

Joined: October 2002 Posts: 178 Location: New York, NY | Nice thread. Cool idea, Slipkid. Contrary to rumors. I have nothing to do with law enforcement. The "PD" are my middle and last initials: Peter and an Italian name that's difficult to pronounce. The first forum I ever joined was the Fender Forum (www.fenderforum.com), although I haven't posted there in a long time. I was into Fender guitars at the time (I still am, although I currently don't own any). I tried to join Fender Forum using "Tony D", but that was taken, so I added my middle initial, hence "Tony PD". I probably could've used "Tony D" here, but I decided to be consistent and use the same name. I didn't even realize PD also stands for Police Department until swat274 (whatever happened to him/her?) once asked me if I was a cop.

Joined: December 2002 Posts: 584 Location: atlanta | In the late 1970s, believe it or not, I was actually a part-time pop critic. An acquaintance of mine was the Music Editor of a local newspaper, and he invited me to be a "stringer" by writing reviews of recently released records (vinyl back in those days). Rock and pop were to be my specialties. I would get about a half-dozen promos at a time, listen to them, and do up a review of a couple of them. One of the perks of the job was backstage press passes to most of the concert acts coming through Atlanta. I have distinctly hazy memories of postconcert backstage parties (three of the best were the Ramones, Dr. John, and Springsteen). I nearly got fired for one review they published--I blasted a new record by Hall and Oates, and called for a boycott of it. I heard indirectly that their record label really didn't like my choice of action verbs! In 1978 the paper published a review of mine that without a doubt is my all-time favorite. I was sorting through a batch of promos and noticed one on the Warner Bros. label which had uncharacteristically drab cover artwork. The band was unknown to me. The final line of my review went something like this: "If you buy only one record all year on blind faith, let this be it." It was the first Dire Straits record. Looking back, I had a lot more misses than hits, but it all sure was fun. Best to everybody-- Dave King a/k/a popcritic
