Thanks. I'll be on the lookout.
I've got a "line" on a couple of 'em in NJ today.
'05 Leftovers seem like an impossibility, but at least it looks like there's '06's with stick . . .
Thanks, All . . .

Cliff,
Thought of an 04 leftover? That's still newer than what you had and the style might be more lto your liking.Either pre-owned or program vehicle..
You'd probably be able to find a stick in one of those.. all up to you.

Not a car that I'd wanna buy "used" (especially with a stick). Could end up unwittingly buying the product of someone else's bad driving habits.
My car had 55K miles on it, and other than lube/oil/filter changes and scheduled maintenance, the only thing that was "done" to it was having the tie-rod ends replaced (f@ckin' Jersey potholes!). The brakes (when recently checked) surprised the hell out of the mechanic on how much "life" was still left on 'em (as was the clutch). s'All part of the Zen of (properly) driving a stick . . . .

Just got off the phone with one of my connections.
I'll email you with what they told me. May not be any different than you've found in your area. But worth a shot.

Cliff,
Some free legal advice that's worth what you paid me for it. Unless you are in a no fault state, her insurance is supposed to put you back in the same place you were before she hit you. That doesn't mean low book for a PT. It means the value of your PT. Make them show you that you could get a car as good as yours for what they offer you. If it's not the right color or not as clean, negotiate for what it's worth. This isn't your insurance carrier.
If your wife had a headache, that's worth something. Don't settle till you are made whole. My daughters and wife have wrecked a lot of my cars and the insurance companies have been very good to us. They want to resolve claims and adjusters who don't get their claims closed lose thier jobs.

My dad had a brand new Pontiac many years ago. He parked it on the street in front of a friend's (of his) house. Someone in a beat up old Impala failed to negotiate the straightaway (go figure) and the trunk of the Pontiac became a fixture in the rear seat. They had the same insurance company. My recollection is that they (the insurance) started out trying to tell him they'd only give him what MiB calls 'low book' seeing as the car was now 'used' (it was a week old). He said, 'No, I don't think so.' Then they said they wouldn't total it, but would repair it. He said, 'No, I don't think so.' They insisted. When he met with the dealer's estimator and the insurance adjuster he (my dad) made it clear that he really appreciated the adjuster's promise to fix the car to a point where my dad was happy, and keep fixing it if he was unhappy in the least. I believe he said something along the lines of, 'That makes me feel good about your company. You clearly want to go the entire distance with me, because I guarantee that every squeak, rattle and shake in this car will be attributable to unrepaired, hidden damage for as long as I own it.' He had a new Pontiac, same model, color and options, by the end of the week.

My old man is cool. Maybe that's an approach you can use with them, cliffy. Get them to agree to make it right, no matter what, then explain what that'll mean to their bottom line. ;)

My two cents ... insurance companies want rear-enders to go away as soon as they can. They also open with their "you're an idiot if you take our first offer" offer. Expect to go back and forth a bunch of times to get what you want. But just cop a righteous attitude and hold your ground. With that said, you can also expect the same from the lady in front of you that you hit ... in California, that one would be considered your fault so your victim will want you (your insurance company) to make her whole.

Well, while my Dad lives in New York he was in a similar accident in New Jersey. He was stopped behind another car at a red light. Another car comes running down the hill, and slams into my Dad's car, pushing him into the car in front of him. The light was still red. Everyone recognized that the guy who reared my Dad was at fault. So that's the law in Jersey.

Paranthetically, when my Dad first spoke to the guy, he only spoke yiddish, then after the police arrived his English magically appeared. The way my Dad tells it, it's pretty funny.

I'm really sorry about the car, but like others have said, the important thing is that you and Jeanette are OK. I remember the first time I saw it at one of your gigs. Joanna and I were walking through the parking lot and saw the "PT" with the "Ovation" tag on the back and knew we were in the right place. LOL. I hope you find another just like it. I really was sorta your trademark. That and the shirts ;)

Cliff, I must have missed the headache part in your first post. Have either/both of you seen a doctor? No, I'm not advocating insurance fraud here, but I can tell you from experience, their insurance company will be after you to settle this.
DON'T LET THEM RUSH YOU. Getting what you legally have coming to you is not fraud. The fraud is when the insurance companies try to screw you out of it. The accident wasn't your fault. Their business is to compensate you for losses caused by their client.

Mark is absolutely right when he talks about negotiating. Most people think you just have to take what they give you, fair or not. Uh, uh. You find out what the real value of your car is, from the realistic mileage and condition, and hold them to replacing that. And you get yourself and your wife to a doctor or a chiropractor immediately and get neck and back x-rays. When you sign off on that claim, you sign off your rights to come back to them later when injuries show up, and injuries from rear-end collisions may not show up for weeks. In Oregon we have something like 6 months to agree that there were no long term injuries.

Make sure you document EVERYTHING. Any time spent off work, the time/money you spend looking for a new car, doctor bills, whatever. They OWE you for all this, do not let them railroad you.
After the car and any medical issues are settled, figure out a realistic amount including anything they may not have compensated you for yet, plus 'pain and suffering' (this is real compensation - you're doing it now) and negotiate with them for that. They WILL try to lowball you - I think it's in their rule book. If you truly believe your amount is realistic (perhaps Mark could help you there) then hold out for it.

I know this has turned into a lengthy message - I've just been through this last year, with 2 different insurance companies - I know how they are. Their goal is to make you go away for the least amount of money. Don't let them intimidate you, Cliff. THEY WILL TRY. YOU are the one with rights here. Stand up to them and you'll get what you deserve. Otherwise you'll only get what they want to give you. For me, standing up made a difference of several thousand in compensation.

Sorry this turned out so long. Glad both of you are well, but get checked anyway. I had to go through 6 months of physical therapy for my neck and back (which didn't start hurting till 4 days after the accident).

Good luck to you, Cliff.

I was in a severe accident in England on the way back to Heathrow. We got hit twice on the passenger side (where I was sitting) and spun hard all by the same Chevy Van (how many Chevy Vans do you suppose there are in England?). I thought to myself this freaking Van is Christine incarnate. The point is, I felt fine after the accident, but after the flight back home I was sore for a few weeks through my neck and left shoulder.

Cliff,
Has this accident taken away your ability to play and sing just like Eric Clapton? Did it ruin the 4 slotheads you had in back?

Nah.

I just had a pair o'these SheetMetal guitars in the back (and they were really OLD, anyways) . . .

. . . they "bent" back in t'shape . . . eventually.

:D

". . Hey Cliff, How about a nice purple PT? . ."

Why? . . y'got a line on one down there??

I wouldn't "mind" a purple one, but I'm not a big fan of the shade that they use . . . it's more "Plum" . . .

If I were t'get a purple car, it'd have to be like a "Nehi Grayple" . . .

Currently negotiating on an '06 (stick) in Electric Blue . . .
