Longines. Given to me for 20 years at work. Before that I had a Baum & Mercier that I won. Nicest watch I ever had but it was stolen. Have a Citizen somewhere that I'll wear when this one wears out.

I want one of those that just says "NOW" on it. That's cool.

Timex Ironman - (They don't sell a half iron man, which I have earned the right to wear.)

I did drop a couple hundred into a Citizen for dressier occasions.

I'd like a TAG, but I think I'd buy another guitar or an amp or maybe both before that.

Casio Alti-Thermo, must be 20 years old now. I bet it still keeps time as well as those 2,000 dollar showpieces.

Probably...

Watch technology hasn't increased much since quartz was introduced and you don't necessarily get a better time keeper the more you pay. What you do get is heirloom quality construction and materials. Automatic movements are for the "purists". Much the same way that guitar purists think acoustics are the only "real" guitars.

An automatic watch such as Rolex, Omega, etc... which are COSC Certified can gain up to 6 seconds or lose up to 4 in a day. Only a watch that meets these requirements can be called a "chronometer" (not to be confused with chronograph, ie Stopwatch). Within this specification is considered VERY good for a mechanical time keeper. Even the cheaperst quartz blows this certification away in accuracy.

Wow. When this one dies, I think I'll save my money and buy another Casio!

Thick wrists make it hard to find a good watchband. I usually depend on my cell phone or a stranger to tell the time.

Ain't that the truth.
I have never (not once!) found a metal band that was both comfortable and fit properly so as not to "pop-open." And those expandable metal bands are torturous if you have hair on your wrists.

... and extra large leather bands aren't all that easy to find

the only time i wear a watch is when i get the seldom chance to go surfing. i lose track of time when i am in the water, which is a blessing and a curse! the blessing is enjoying the waves, the curse comes when i have to face the wife about being in the water so long. i wear a casio g-shock to limit the blessing and foil the curse. we gave up cellphones last year to curb expenses and discovered we are much more content without the "leash". in hawaii, we go by what is known as "hawaiian time". that means you show up when you get there. it is rare for meetings to be on time, even church services! the illegal, immoral IRS does not abide by the hawaiian time protocol, unfortunately.

In the daytime, I go by the Sun.

At night, I'll wait until the only ones left at the bar are mumbling drunks & ugly skanks . . . then I know it's 2a.m. (and time for a "closing" tune).

They use the same time in Africa, except there they call it "ish" time. You know, "I'll be home 6-ish" could be anytime between 6 and 11. Most likely closer to 11, unless you owe them money.

As my post count will reflect, I hardly ever comment although I read the OFC board nearly every day. I usually feel like I don't have any meaningful input relative to the Ovation discussions. Although I love Ovations, I play and promote them at every occasion I can, I really don't know the intricate details as do many of you. I just know that everybody loves it when I play mine. I consider this as a learning environment. However as my "handle" might reflect, I am into watches. I collect and repair watches as do many of you guitars. Mechanical watches (the wind up kind) are incredable machines that measure time. The history and science of the development of these "chronometers" is fasinating and very similiar to acoustic guitar. Both are based on the physics of vibration control. But imagine if you had to build a guitar that had to play the same note 5 times per second 24/7/365 for years or decades in any temprature, position, environment and could fit on your arm. The same external inputs that make a guitar go out of tune will make a watch lose or gain time.
Probably Too Much Information, but open your watch sometime and look inside. BTW I wear a Rolex GMT, not for show (I wish it had a Timex face) but because it represents the highest level of science relative to a machine that is designed to measure time.

Same thing in some parts of the middle east and in south east asia, when you ask them if they'll be at a meeting, they say en-shal-ha, which means, God Willing. You can never pin them down as to the exact time, unless you owe them money.

If you read it every day, you must be aware that 'meaningful input' and 'posting' are rarely seen together round these parts.
If I followed that philosophy my post count would be 10.

Your Elgin probably just needs a cleaning. 30 years is still young. I have several over 80 years old that are in the 2 second per week range and a mid 1940s Hamilton 992 that is spot on over any time period.

I have four watches, two Swiss Army models for casual, and two Gucci models for business dress. All four are swiss movement pieces, ages range from four years to 22 years. The leather bands don't last, but the time pieces are excellent.
