Not a beater, but the one I take EVERYWHERE is my '82 1581-2. Nothing will hurt it, it's a great example to show off to people who think "Celebrity" when they think Ovation, and it's insured: if it's stolen I get $4,000. Can't beat it. I took it camping in Maine last month. John <>{

I have a "Winston" Classical still on loan from the girl across the street, circa 1976...

It was my Locker guitar as a Rigger in the Shipyard. About 4 years ago I sanded it down, repaired and repainted in laqcuer. Very basic model from "Sears" in 1967 but it is a regular pass-around guitar for a handfull of my coworkers on our lunch break.

Definitely need to pick up an old 12-fret Pacemaker...that would be the perfect beater IMHO.

That, or I just need another Adamas again.

I am sending my '69 1115-1 Pacemaker to the Mothership for some refurbishment...no doubt it'll become my new go to guitar for Scout outings/beach/camping, etc. Right now its on a stand on the mantel in my office along with my 1758-1 Elite. They really look nice together! (See what hanging around this site has done to me? All of my life: cases, cases, cases; now they're displayed w/no protection whatsoever except they're out of reach from the kids for the moment! What's next?....WALL HANGERS!)

Blessings!!!

FYI

The Banner was a Birthday present from SWMBO: her first ever EBay buy...It arrived on Friday: I was blown away! The headstock in the center is a souvenir from the tour...

Blessings...

I knew someone would comment on the fish: thanks Paul, its a Tiger Muskie; 10 lbs; 34 inches I caught in 1995.

1115-1: Finish/Top Cracks, possible truss rod; if it can be done without replacing the bridge or neck, I'll do it (new top would be no problem)...If not, its worth more to me just to leave it original...we'll see!

I'm also sending my 1758-6 soon for minor refreshment...(cmon Cliff, I know you have a great one for that line... :p

Blessings...

That is a nce fish, my wife & I want to go fish for muskies one of these days but there aren't any in Oregon.

I don't really have a "beater", other than maybe my Pacemaker. It's got cracks & dings already & I got it for free after United Parcel Smashers got done with it. I used to use it for a travel guitar before I started playing with a thumb pick most of the time. Now I generally take my 1612 since it lends itself better to finger picking. It has two really small cracks in the top, one above & one below where the fingerboard goes over the top. Also a few minor dings. The case has a few scuff marks already so I don't worry about it much & it's easily replaced if something bad happens to it.

All my guitars are beaters. I'm a card carrying member of the "no guitar should last more than a few years" club. Buy it. Play it till its toothpicks. Buy a new one. Hang whats left of the old one on the wall.

Once, while camping and playing my 1112, the wind shifted (as it sometimes does in the mountains) and showered the O and me with sparks and ash. I swear that the Blue Coral I used on the top protected the finish and didn't allow any burns or marks. I went out and bought a old Alvarez to use as a camp, beach, travel, and let kids mess with it, guitar. I've had it now for 20 years. It sits next to my computer table and is handy to pick up and play if the need or desire occurs. I have never treated it kindly, but there is not a single crack or mar on it .It has to be the best junk $50.00 guitar I've ever had.

One of the best 12's ever...nearly insestructable...for years they remained one of the best values in the vintage Fender line...well no more...
Here's a Picture:

Note the History in the case....

Here is my other Travel guitar (it went to Russia w/me in 2001):

Now before I hear anything about Taylor: I took my 1758-6 in 1995 and 1996; and my former 1868-5 in 1994: I wish you could have seen the airport customs agents when they saw the Ovation's...Priceless!

Blessings...

Congrats on the banner, Mike. I suspected it was you when I was beat out by $2 at the end of the auction. Glad it went to an OFC family member.

Brad,
Wow, I had no idea...I had been seen this early in the auction...no one had bid and yet I suspected it would go for around $100 to $150...there were three things the wife asked me about that I was watching...she did not know how to bid so I told her to wait until the last minute of whatever auction she wanted to bid on and bid...I was with my brother in the eastern part of the state and was not home...I had not checked to see what she won...I had no idea you were bidding on this and she would not have known...yes, I do tend to bid at the last second...I've lost too many times...but I would have said something if I had known...I didn't suspect she had gotten this; she kept the secret well.; it was a surprise when Fed-Ex brought it on Friday...I just now checked the ended auction...Sorry, Brad...its my fault for telling her how to bid I guess...the other two items were guitars and she said they were too expensive... :o

Blessings...

I don't currently have anything I would consider a "Beater", but IF I did want to BEAT on any guitar in particular it would probably be a Taylor.
