I always got a lot of mileage out of "Midnight At The Oasis."

Something about that phrase "put my camel to bed, be my belly dancer and I'll be your shiek..." still gets 'em every time.

Beautiful by Gordon Lightfoot.
Time in a Bottle or I'll Have to Say I Love You by Jim Croce.
Tough to make out and play them at the same time, but it can be done.

The year was 1966. I was sitting in my girlfriend's living room during dinner time with all my gear hooked up. She was eating dinner with her parents and siblings. I wanted to impress them all with how well (I thought) I could play some nice dinner music, so I cranked up the amp and proceeded to honk out "My Baby Does the Hanky Panky" by Tommy James and the Shondells. Song selection was questionable at best, even for a 15 year old, but the timing couldn't have been worse.

The Mystic Moods Orchestra album titled "Stormy Weekend" It's still available as a CD. This was one of the first recordings done by Brad Miller, the founding founder of Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow -- The Shirelles. I imagine any two minute ditty will suffice...sad to say that in my case, that little ditty is usually Happy Birthday

Second vote for just about anything Croce, except Leroy Brown of course.

Personal favorite - In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel.

Well, if I ever were to need that particular genre of music again, my choices would have to be

"Con Te Partiro" sung by Andrea Bocelli
"Prelude and Liebestod" (Orcestra alone) by Richard Wagner

lady blue

this song came out a year after i got out of high school. i had just joined the army reserve and was flying to fort ord, california for basic training. i was missing my sweetheart badly and this song was on the airplane's playlist. her photo was in my lap and a triple ginger lei she had given me at honolulu airport was around my neck. this song came on and there was no way i could fight back the flood of tears!

My wife suggested "In a Gadda Da Vida" while we made love.

So what am I supposed to do in the remaining 16 minutes?

I personally like anything in the slow jazz category. Here's one ...

bvince,
i enjoy just about any song nora sings. my wife, on the other hand, does not like nora's vocals at all. i don't get it...

this was a clever sesame street edition with nora singing this song, "i don't know why Y didn't come"

My wife and kids all like Nora. She actually attended Interlochen Music School about 1/2 hr from here. I always thought she sounded a little like Billie Holiday.
