Jacksonville International Airport. (they had a deversion from the Bahamas once, hence the international, plua all the daily flights from Georgia but we won't go there) The airport identifier is JAX. It's 25 miles to the Island, about a $50 cab ride. You won't really need a car once you get there, rent a scooter from Joe for a litle spin around the island. If enough people show up at the airport at the same time I can make a run in the Suburban. If one person gets a car ya'll can trade it around if needed.

The family is coming woth me...we have the Miami room upstairs so if the Baby cries, it shouldn't bother anyone...we have never been able to actually take a vacation together for more than just a few days so this should be great...don't know if anyone else (other than Brad) has family coming but we'll try to plan some family time as well during the stay...the wife an i are looking forward to the stay and our first family vacation...hopefully the scenes running through my mind of Chevy Chase and co. will remain only a memory and not become reality...

 ;)

"GuitarWorkshop"... "OFC Attendees" ...."Family Vacation"

Mike, apparently, you have not thought this through very clearly...

Jeff, with our schedules, its almost impossible...it was either the tour or this...and I plan to go to both if possible...the family wouldn't have a very good time in CT.; this way, they can tool around the island, etc. while I'm busy. I am trying to compromise...if it bites me in the butt, so be it....won't be the first time...and I'm hoping for the best...

Just make sure your family gets all the necessary vaccinations...

(and there will be some paperwork- liability waivers and such that needs to be completed)

I was going to post that I had made my reservations to attend, but I didn't want to scare others away. So I won't mention it.

HOPEfully, Witko's room has it's own bathroom.

As MasterTempleman attest, it is HIGHLY suggested that you NOT share (directly or indirectly) a plumbing circuit with Dave . . .

I've contacted Fernandina Municipal Services requesting a copy of the local sewage layout in order to plan my lodging.

grabbing the reservations certainly takes one headache out of the equation.

Trying to find a decent flight seems to be an entirely different nut to crack...they all suck unless I take the redeye out (leaving 12 am arriving at 5 am)and do it direct (for a chunk more money).

Oh well....plenty of time to find a deal (I hope!)

If you were going to rent a car you could try looking at Savahana. It's about a 2 hour drive south. from there.
NOt really recommended since Savanah is a smaller airport that JIA, but an option.

Not to worry about the plumbing issues, it all empties out to the parking lot in back and they haven't had a backup in a couple of years since they put in the bigger pipe.

We've been at the Health Department all morning and so far looks like everyone has checked out...not sure if we needed the typhus vaccination, but rather be safe than sorry...so we also got the alien invader vaccination (Dave's coming has nothing to do with it) :rolleyes: ;
like Cliff said...another week closer....Be there or Be square....or not...

Geez, a guy floods a friends hotel room one time due to a thunderous bowl movement and I'm branded for life. Well, guess everyone has something to be remembered by, and this just happends to be mine.

... and we remain grateful.

I'm seriously considering this instead of the Tour next year. Same problem as Stephen, I'll have to take a red eye. Of course I have to do that for CT anyway.
