No "LX" TRC and you can see that the preamp is an OP4BT with a separate door for the battery. See the little teeny abalone micro-dot fret markers? Screw-cap covers on the bridge? Hey Kim, John, any of you other MotherShip folks who read this Forum... There are alot of boo-boos in the new site.

I just went to the Ovation website after a long absence and was shocked at how stark and sterile it appears. Now THAT'S what I call a website, and I've been designing sites for nearly 20 years and I work with one of the best designers in the industry. The website is supposed to entice the reader, to make him want to investigate the product, to want to learn more and finally, how can I get one. What I see looks like an ebay listing with the conspicuous absence of the phrase, "near mint." If one is familiar with the brand, knows what he wants and is perusing what is available, it'll serve that need. If, however, one is on the fence about Ovations or has no knowledge of the brand, this is not going to make him want one.

Still have to practice myself with the new website ... you know, thing always change and we have to move on. However, first impression of the new site was somehow "warm"; but what do I know ...

My point is simply that Ovation is not going to lure my disposable income with that website.71Jasper, I'm curious. How old are you? It's nice if you have hair you could dye if you chose to. The big spenders are all young these days, so that's where the advertising is directed. I just bought a brown car and some youngster (soon to be 40) told me brown cars are for old people. I assume these people borrow the money they spend so freely or get it from their parents, but they sure seem to keep the economy going. Marketing has to cater to them primarily. Guys like Al will still talk to guys like me on the phone and answer questions about what is available.

It's funny that the over 50 crowd has the most disposable income, but the marketing folks at Ovation have cleverly summised that they 'dispose' of it through their under 35 kids. I found it a bit difficult to maneuver around the new website, but I suppose it's just that I'm used to the old one, that, and a few kinks here and there. Took me a while to get used to DOS too.

When I was a kid I was lucky if I had a bicycle. My second bicycle cost $6 at the Thrift Store. Nowadays a child is neglected if he/she doesn't have a cell phone. These poor kids need to be able to get online to research their homework. And if they don't have a laptop they cannot attend school cuz the Books are on the laptop. But now the Guitar industry is driven by the whims of 8 to 14 year-old children. (Man, I'm starting to sound like my Grandfather! )

It would also be nice to have a user/owner area where people could post reviews, photos of their gits, etc. I am in the minority here, but I kind of liked the old site. Besides, if I want REAL information, I go to Jerome's site ... ;) Willa

While there is some cross-over, such as a Marketing or Information site that sells stuff, sites fall into one of these three categories and that's it. Regardless of intention, which I have no knowledge of, the previous site was an Information site and the new one seems to be a Marketing site. The previous site had some aspects of Marketing, but it was an Information site. This new site has some information/historic stuff, but it's focused on marketing. It makes perfect sense when you think about it that some people who go to the new site looking for information, aren't going to find it. They are going to focus on what they are selling NOW, who's playing them NOW. Someday I assume their may be more historic info, and research info, but that's not the focus of the site. Again, what "their" vision is may be totally different, but as a developer, it looks like they made a paradigm shift. Information was nice, but now they are looking at Marketing (e.g. Selling) which I think is much better. You want information, Dave, Al, Jerome and Myself have spent years collecting the information, and if you use Google or the Custom Google Search here, you'll find all the info you need, much more than Ovation/Fender could ever afford to provide. You want to find out what the latest news on the latest models currently available and whose playing them, and where to buy them, that's what OvationGuitars.com is for. Just my 2 pence.. your mileage may vary.

I don't know about everyone, but I research the hell out of everything I buy. I think both aspects are important ~ marketing and information, not to mention owners input! You are right, people can go and find information by surfing the web, but not all Joe Blow's are computer savvy and the first place those types are going to look at is the 'official' site. To me, the new site is like visiting Sam Ash or something ... I'm not sure what it's missing, besides the obvious things that others have mentioned, but as the lay person checking the new 'place' out, I know what I like, and I'm not liking it. I also don't like how, if you search out a particular archived guitar, you get sent to a page with a goofy guy banging on a guitar saying "OOops", but doesn't really direct you anywhere else. If they are planning on adding/finishing the site, they sure are taking their time about it. They should leave parts of the old site up, or links to it, until they are finished, because not everyone knows about Jerome's site, haha. Again, either way, I understand perfectly what you're saying, Miles ... just my two cents ... and I'm a pretty big fan of Ovations and Adamas guitars in case no one noticed ... ;) Willa
