I don't, but I get it anyway. Then I lie awake nights figuring out how to pay for it. Then I lie awake nights thinking about how I don't use it enough, so I sell it or another. Then I lie awake nights wishing I wouldn't have sold it. Then I lie awake nights thinking about it's replacement. I guess I don't sleep enough to dream about guitars.

(3) The perfectly irrational hope that some of his talent would rub off on me. Oh...you wanted GOOD reasons! So, (4) since John owned it, it's probably a REALLY good guitar. So, then (5) if I were to make it sound wretched, I could sell it for a LOT, and get another guitar that I might not make sound so wretched. That's all I got.

There must be one that universally gets approval as a workhorse that never lets you down and that Ovation generally got everything right with! Even if not the best...

As for your question, Jeremiah, I have a very old 1111-4 Balladeer (from somewhere around 1970) that I had an Optima pre-amp put in; she is my "Ol' Lady," and she really produces sound--wonderful old thinner neck, and even though she's not gonna win friends or influence people with her looks (she's one of the "wounded warrior"-type guitars), I could not be induced to part with her under any circumstances. (If I were forced by circumstances to have to sell any of them, the other four would definitely go first...) Because what we like is so subjective, I guess you'll have to meet up with some of the other Ovationistos on the board in order to sample all the flavors of Ovation "ice cream" that there are... --Karen
