Either the U681 or the FD14 are not guitars meant to replace a 1537. Rather they are meant to supplement a 1537....

Woody, as you may have guessed, that post was done purely tongue-in-cheek. I did catch a wiff of the U681T that sold yesterday on ebay. The seller is the same guy I bought my 1681 from and I knew it would be a fantastic guitar, but it didn't work out. Bad timing

My current financial situation is that I can't take in another guitar without moving one out. I should be happy with what I have, but the 1537 hasn't been getting the play time it deserves.

I hear you, the 1537, FD-14, and the U681T are all unique instruments and are superlative on their own merits. I just can't afford to have one of each, so there has to be a trade-off (literally). It was a tough decision to offer the 1537 for sale. Like I mentioned in an earlier post though, it could have been worse, it could have sold!

Now a FD-14 would be an exception. Every effort would be made to acquire one of those. Any one going to Europe?

Blues, I never said I wasn't interested. I just can't afford to live in a hotel room, which is where I would be sleeping if I bought another wood top guitar right now.

As for strings, Elixar lights on my 1537 and just bought a batch of 1818's that will be what I try next.

As to the U681....I sat watching it with 2 minutes to go and began saying to myself (you still want another airplane....you still want another airplane...) so I took my shaking finger off of the trigger and lowered the mouse from my temple and took a very deep breath as it went dirt cheap.

This morning I feel good about it so no regrets whatsoever. Hope the new owner appreciates what he just acquired. Hey....maybe I will get the 1537 out tonight and celebrate.

Waskel,

I hear you. I know there were actually several parties with interest. Seems all were in the same boat as you and the reason the Ute isn't on its way to my house.

I'm in the same boat. I think it qualifies as a ship. As I was trying to point out the beauty of the Book Elite to my wife and worrying about whether I'd ever see a Ute for that or any price again, she said, "Maybe we should just buy a new Honda Pilot so we'll have 4 wheel drive to go to the cabin this weekend." I don't know where she got her priorities. Looks like I'll spend guitar money on new tires for the old Honda.

CRV's are cheaper, get better mileage, have real-time AWD, 4 wheel disk anti-locks and I can still get 5 guitars in the back. :D

I'm having trouble keeping Ovation models straight. I'll let my wife do the Honda research.

Hey Guys and Gals,

I've still got this beautiful 1537 that I would like to pass on to a good OFC'er. I've got a bad itch for a new guitar and need to raise the $$. Asking $900 shipped by FedEx (continental US) to your door.

Let me know if you are interested and we can talk price.

I did this same test, and I can't find that much difference between the 1818s and the light Elixers. To me the 1818s last just as long, and even if they didn't ... they're sure a lot cheaper. I agree with a previous posting on string choices .."change them as often as needed" and your guitar will always sound and play its best. I tried Mediums and I personally didn't like them.

Sorry Blues,

I didn't mean to take us off topic again. I love my 1537 and my Adamas II. I had neglected the 1537 since I got her back from the mothership, and took her out a couple of weeks ago. Almost forgot how nice she plays and feels.

I hope you sell it to someone here who understands her value.

That's only a 1/16 difference. Why not go to a 1 7/8 of a Folklore?

Nope. I just got one and like it too much to let go. But I'm that way about everything.

I haven't forgot you Blues.. I'm still interested as well.... just slowly working the wife (birthday angle). It's kind of like getting in a hot tub... if you jump in, you get scalded nards,...slow and easy and everyone is happy.

Mike O

PS Bvince: I love my 1868, I play it at church every week, great sound for a shallow bowl. Highly recommend it. (see Jan Pic in OFC calendar)

Time to bump this to the top.

Someone PLEASE help me out here. This beautiful guitar need to find a new home.

For all you new guys and gals, this is one of the better examples you'll find of one of the most sought after Ovations. Yes, there are a couple of character marks on the top, but nothing that takes away from the beauty of this wonderful 23 year old guitar. The neck is straight and the frets are far from needing attention.

You will be happy with this guitar or I'll buy it back. (minus shipping) It doesn't get better than that!

Why, you may ask, am I selling this guitar? Well, I've got real bad GAS for a 12 fret with a wide neck. Something has to give before I can get some relief. So help me out!

Blues\' 1537

There are a few more pictures in the gallery under BluesSailor. StephenT28 has a few pics in his gallery as well. Also, for those of you with the Official OFC Calendar, it can be seen in the lower left corner of Mays pictures.

$800 + shipping. Includes OHSC and new set of 1818's

You will not be disappointed!
