(with any luck, you can sit next to McCain)

I have a few "Mac Basics" training guides designed for first timers. I used them back when I sold these things to new converts. If you want them, let me know and I'll dig 'em up and email them to you Sir.

I pondered the potential political responces to this for a good 60 seconds before I decided to hit the post button. We're into some strange times gentlemen..... strange times.

For a good 10 years people expert in those areas kept telling me I needed to be using a Mac. But I resisted for a number of reasons. Like clockwork every 2.5 years my PC would be brought to it's knees and require replacing. And every time I would say "yup, I'm gonna buy a Mac", but at the last second I would step back from the edge and invest in another temporary windows solution. I finally hit my limit and just said "screw it, it's now or never". I didn't take the plunge un-advised, or ill-informed, and it was a 2x cost premium over a PC machine. But so far it has worked out wonderfully. Just like with Ovations, I'm not claiming the Mac is the better tool for all situations. But for what I do it's the best choice and I am 100% sure of that. Clifford, just havin' fun with ya. As a side note, I was in a recording studio a couple of weeks ago (boy, do I hate the sound of my voice), and the guy who owned the studio had several dedicated PC's with nothing on them but his recording software. He said that anything else on them would just screw them up and that they needed all the dedicated power they could use for that software. But it was interesting that he used PC's instead of Mac's......

Yeah, you were there for the install of the SECOND Dell, which has now met it's death as well. Actually it still works, plays music beautifully as long as you don't move the mouse at the same time. I've set it up in the other room and am temporarily using it just for webpage design and photoshop while I get those moved over to the Mac. Dave

Without all the excess CRAP that most people love to load, the PC is extremely stable and versatile. Plus, there is a ton more software to choose from. The positive of MACS is that they have one internal structure and one structure only which makes it very easy for numbnuts to use without having any knowledge of the hardware they are using. Also makes it very simple for software manufacturers to write for it since they know that basically all the models (internals) are essentially the same. I prefer choices....but MACS do accomplish somethings better than any other machine on the market!

Most people I know who got "a great deal" on a PC ended up doing things like adding a video card, more RAM, bigger hard drive, DVD recorder - all of which bring it up to a similar price to a Mac which had it all from the beginning.

In the creative/advertising world, there's a UNIVERSE of difference and I've bought several of each over the past 15 years. Usually in the neighborhood of about $4,000 difference per. Most of that is because of creative software that not everyone needs but, even before software, base machines are typically at least $500 apart. After dealing with both for years, I still come down on the "it depends what you're doing and what your requirements are" much more so than the money because if it comes down to software requirements you're usually too far down the road to even consider going with the other. The PowerBook has changed that a bit but not completely. YMMV.

Ordering one built would be more of course. But at least one can still build their own PC... In the software world, the difference is much greater.
