Willa - my thoughts (for what they're worth, which is about the worth of the electrons spent in posting this): hold off for another. These don't come up often, but they DO come up. You could probably pick one up with no issues (well, maybe some pick swirls) for about what this one will wind up going for at auction. Mine wound up costing less than the current bid including refurbishment at the Mothership. And that's all I'll say as the Price Police!

Wait ... I think I've gotten my photos mixed up. One seller is from Panama City, FL, the other from Acworth, GA. It's the battle of the O's!

Moody brought up that GA one earlier . It's a Frankenvation with a cutaway CL body and standard legend neck, never mind the stress cracks in the finish from the bridge. Run away!

There photos from the Panama City guitar are pretty lousy. I don't understand how someone could post such poor quality photos for an item they are asking almost $800 bucks for! As for G8r's or Moody's assessment of the Frankenstein, I agree! RUN A W A Y!

Craigslist is not hi-res friendly. Have the seller send you some... Also keep in mind, the PCFL ad states 'Make offer'!

You never know what you are going to find on Craig's list! I won't go into detail here, but recently I stumbled upon an instrument that was listed for (!) $60.00. I no sooner had it in my hands when I received an email offering me $1,000.00. I swear, this is TRUE story! I was flabbergasted ... but won't sell it! ;) "Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get ..."

Please - go into detail!

What was the instrument?

How did the person who emailed you know that you had it?

I think the CL 1619 is worth pursuing. You don't buy a guitar based solely on the crappy pics on CL. You need to email the seller to request some decent ones, and/or have a phone discussion where the seller can inspect the guitar and provide an in-hand description. The ad is meant as an enticement to make contact, not as a full blown basis for the sale.

That said, a savvy buyer knows that CL is often used by people who are less sophisticated than perhaps the average Ebay auctioneer. For example, the 1537 I just landed was posted by a guy who doesn't even use a computer. His wife took the pics and has the email address. But I spoke to him on the phone, and he seems a good egg. I'm taking my chances. My point is that poor pics and grammar don't usually mean that the seller is a crook or the product is trash.

You get a feeling for this stuff with experience. Plus, some guitars are worth a risk, because even a small flaw that goes beyond what was described might not be an issue for resale because the guitar is highly desirable. That is why price negotiation matters... You don't want to be into something at the top of the value range, just in case you need to flip it later.

H'ya Roger. Yes; I agree that the guitar is worth pursuing. I also certainly agree that poor spelling, grammar and/or poor pics do NOT suggest a person/seller is ignorant or dishonest. EvilBay is what it is. I personally have had pretty good experiences with Ebay, although I think their fees are way too high. Let the buyer beware! Let the sellers beware, too! There are a lot of savvy marketeers out there. ;P

The more information, the better the chances of selling it for your asking price. Sy Symms said it: "An educated consumer is our best customer..." Oh, but wait ... he sold men's suits. Oh, well. Sigh. What if, fate to the wind, you just don't care and want the dang guitar? It's been known to happen. :)

Apparently the seller has other endeavors locally and recommended an appointment. He has not returned my last email nor call. So my last chance to inspect will be Monday (last day of offering).

Willa, would you still like me to check it out? Or has your attentions been diverted?

Did ya ever contact the PCFL CL seller?

Iffy, I would be very, very grateful if you could check her out for me, but I hope you know I don't expect you to go out of your way. I am taken aback by your offer to begin with. So, if you are curious yourself, and wouldn't mind, please do, and thanks my fellow O lover ...

Iffy, the PCFL CL seller is going to send me some more photos. I am waiting patiently, and to tell you the truth, wondering why there are so many CLs for sale out there. I love those guitars (obviously). They 'fit' me perfectly, but I get the feeling that as beautiful as they are to look at, they do not hold one's affection for long. Then again, the economy is horrible, and people need money, so who knows?

Scooter, as for my story about my great $60 fine, well, if I told you, I'd have to kill you. I was just very lucky that day. But here's the thing: I don't WANT to sell it. I will tell you (just to tease) that it was a stringed instrument, supposedly described as the equivalent of "a rare vintange Martin guitar" as one fellow wrote. (Spooky music playing). Someday, when I see another guitar out there I fall in love with, I'll let the mystery instrument go. One man's treasure is another man's junk, huh! ;P

willa,

Sorry to say that the 'inspection tour' won't happen due to the lack of timely seller responses after several emails and two unanswered phone calls. I can't justify a three hour round trip without a firm appointment.

Sorry... Good luck in your quest!

Whoa! Three hours? I had no idea the seller was that far away from you! Your offer was truly kind! He'll probably call you after the auction.

**Sigh**. I guess we'll all see what happens! It'll all be over by midnight tonight ... the witching hour! What to do, what to do ... Thanks for your offer, anyway.

I was telling my wife this weekend that some people think 50 miles is too far to go try out some guitars. Since there isn't anything within 50 miles of us, I've gone 400 or 500 miles or more several times. I guess that's part of the obsession. She thought that I was the crazy one. She's probably right. Iffy has a lot in common with many of us.

I guess my 'subtle' message is why should the seller go out of his (in this case) way when he already has a $812.99 eBay bid for a guitar that he had in his store for $750?!?!

Maybe I'm not being fair here, but I call 'em as I see 'em... especially after the contact efforts.

Hell, I've driven a lot further just to play someone else's guitar...
