Thank you, Al.
If it's "personal", it should stay "personal".

And how little did you offer me for mine? Shame on you for now trying to undermind this deal.
I didn't offer you ANYTHING for yours.
Why would I when I already have one.

I responded to Randy's post that he knew of no one who had paid $1800 for one.

I will accept your apology for making such an inaccurate accusation.

I am sorry. I thought it was you that offered $800. I have deleted the pm. Who was the one that offered $800?

They turned it into a decision by committee. Two guys trading guitars asked a worldwide audience for their opinion. Unfortunately, they only wanted to hear opinions they agreed with. And like it is with egomaniacs, if your opinion doesn't match what they want to hear, then your intelligence, motives and social choices are attacked. It's the way of the world, and not unique to this forum.

It just goes to show that private business dealings should remain private. Airing your laundry in public will cause the neighbors to comment on your panties.

The only opinion asked for was that of trusting him. I am new here. I have a guitar to trade. He offered me a trade that I agreed was equalish in value. I offered to send my guitar first because I was new and had no reputation yet. I figuired since he had been here awhile that he would have a reputation. I asked about his reputation after he suggested that I do so. Then people who had told me one price when I asked about the value of my guitar started acting like it was worth even more. I questioned the deal. I did some more research away from this site. I reagree to the deal then the argueing started. A lot of pettiness for nothing. The guitar is mailed to him Monday when I can get to the UPS store.

This place seems to a new person to be full of lowballers and hustlers. That might just be a few giving the whole a bad name though.

Careful ... It's not an old person trying to flip a $600 deal into a $1500 Strat in a drive-by.

Click.

newoldovation...
I sent you a PM but there is no reason I can't post it here...

Look, I know you are new here.
You asked if a guy was trustworthy. A few people said yes so you dove right in.

You didn't see it that way but a few people were trying to watch out for you.
There are a number of stories about how Randy only makes a deal if it's very, very good for Randy.
If you had been here for six months you would have been left alone to make any deal you wanted to. People were just suggesting that you do your homework.

You have not been around long enough to know the recent history. Randy had been on the edge of being banned from here for a while now. Now he has been. FYI... he's not banned forever. After a cooling off period, he will be allowed back.

Oh... and next time it might be good to do a deal one on one... not on the open board.

Believe me... everyone hopes you are happy with the deal. If you are, then we'll be just as happy for you.

Lastly... hang around a while before labeling people scammers and hustlers.

Regards,
Brad

and those words of wisdom came from one of the boards moderators and the author of the Slipkid manifesto that is often quoted as the gospel.

I hope you are extremely happy with your trade.

Great... so we showed another newbee that if given a chance, we have the capacity to turn on anyone and become a vicious pack of dogs. When the feeding frenzy subsided, the guy who took the first bite innocently asks, how did this turn into such a mess?

Feeling justified does not make it right.

Stephen... you answered the man's question. Why did you jump in later?

here was my answere to the PM.
The issue of trust is what I want settled. If there are any members here that say I can NOT trust him to send the guitar to me, then I would not mail him mine. The value of the Deacon is not the question now. When it was I was given certian numbers. After I tried to sell it here, some of those same people gave me lower values. When I decided to trade with randy, I posted the trade to ask(at his suggestion) if he was trustworthy. Now some of the same people that have given me two different values give me higher ones. Sounds like lowballing and hustling to me. When the guitar is not up for sale a middle value is given. When they are bidding, a low value. When randy wins it, the highest value. What would this appear to be to you if you had just joined the site?

Bruce, welcome to the party.
Is there a point to your post?

Randy and I were unable to come to a deal based on some of the comments that Brad mentioned.

It is a nice trade for one of the parties....maybe both based on the current dislike of the Deacon12 and the potential value of a re-issued strat.

Would I do the deal? I wasn't asked nor was I involved and I will leave it at that.

I jumped back in when Randy questioned whether a deacon 12 had ever sold for $1800.

I jumped back in when I was wrongly accused of lowballing the D12 in a PM.

Thank you however for your keen observations and quoting abilities.

Stephen, you make my point. At first, you told the man that, "You have nothing to worry about and it sounds like a nice trade." Then as the thread digressed and went to hell, you jump right in and helped. But helping who and to what purpose? I just have to ask some of you guys why you felt compelled to go in the direction you did?

I'll assume you are referring to me, so please reread the post, Bruce. I just did. I congratulated Randy on getting a very good deal on a very rare guitar. I assumed the deal was done, I was wrong, and I apologized. Nothing more, nothing less and I removed myself from the discussion. 37 other posts were made which ran the full spectrum which we have all read. And then it was confirmed that the deal was DONE. Only then did I respond again and question how this whole event could have gone so wrong (I chose a bit stronger language and was scolded by the admin). I'm sorry if that irritates you so much.

Sounds to me like newoldovation has this under control to his satisfaction. And, in my totally unsolicited opinion, that's really all that matters. The rest of it is nonsense and a complete waste of time.

I say let's move on...(that's what I'm going to do anyway).

You keep bringing this up, yet you don't seem able to provide any names. Before it was one, now it's "some".

Wrong! I couldn't care less whether he or Randy ends up happy with the deal. I'll be happy if we never hear from either one of them again.
