Hell, if I don't get offended at the abuse I get at your gigs, I'm certainly not going to get offended by a guitar remark, but you already know that. :) As you know, Ovations are the only guitars that I gig with any more, just like I told the Martin guys. They are the only guitars that stand up not only to the things that you described so very well, but also to being owned by a clutz like yours truly. I should have never jumped into the conversation on the Martin board, but I , like you, could not believe that they were so upset over a picture. Go figya!

Why try to talk to people who have an unchangable mind set? Trying to explain the science and logic behind the bowl design would be lost on most of them. I would add emphasis to just one angle of Cliff's manifesto. Ovations are not just durable, dependable workhorses. The good ones sound great and the great ones sound fantastic! And that goes for plugged and unplugged. But there I go...preaching to the choir.

I own both and ain't gonna go get my panties in a bunch over what other people think on either side of the fence. Dave PS - But that IS one of the best photos I've ever had the pleasure to take ...

My question about most of this.....how many of the guys on the Martin board that were bashing O's have even played one?...and how many of those have played a real USA model....and then how may of those have played a slothead, a U681, a 1537, etc. My guess is very few.

This is a quick but true story. I wanted an O really bad during that time, but could not afford one with the martin. I made a deal to trade the D28 for a legend(or it could have been a balladeer) with a music store in Mobile, AL. I went back the next afternoon with the guitar to make the trade, and the owner had loaned the O to Harry Chapin, who was playing in town that night. The O never returned to the store, I don't know if Harry kept it or not. I was pissed, but felt like I had a brush with greatness!

Two years later, and having had its share of abuse from my sub-standard technique, it's still going and no way am I going to part with it -- at least not anytime soon.

Witko was egging me on t'take a picture of the BanjoTam booth attendants, but that was a line even I wouldn't cross . . . Mom warned me about certain things NOT make fun of . . . (it WAS f@ckin' "Classic" tho . . . :-)

There are nice members there, but I have my reservations for them "snobs." I posted about it before ... (reading between the lines) ... I was not happy at some of the postings for the Martins on the lower end. Anything lower than the D-15 (except the LXM) were almost always never mentioned, and usually looked down upon. With regards to the Martins that I own, some disgruntled member once sent me a PM message that read: "...sure it's a Martin, but it's not a D-28." I think that was the ticker that made me decide to shy away from the UMGF, and it's really sad, since I happen to like M guitars, besides Ovations.

It's no different than they way we talk about Celebrity and Applause models. The only difference is that by and large the members of UMGF has spent a LOT more money on their instruments than we have here. And with that coms a certain degree of snootiness. I tend to just ignore it. There is NO way I'm going to convince a guy who has spent $40,000. on a collection of 7 guitars that his choices are crap because they don't have plastic backs. I just read it, enjoy it, occasionally contribute, and don't let it ruin my day. Dave
