But I'm to the point where I only usually play four of them on a regular basis. I've told her I'm getting rid of two of my three travel guitars and she says "so, are you going to get something that looks better than those two?" She doesn't care how many I have as long as she doesn't have to listen to me practice. She hates hearing only part of a song. I have no advise for all you married guys. I've never been married so I just wouldn't know.

I just point out to my wife (of 27 years) that all the guitars (and studio gear, etc. etc.) added together cost less than an exotic Italian sports car and waaaaayyy less than a girlfriend. It's a hobby that I can do at home and at church, with the kids and it's legal in all 50 states. You just gotta get things in perspective.

Lady Noah and I started out as best friends with benefits in college about 30 years ago. Sunday marks 28 years of marriage. Each of us have our passions. Some have become shared, others are respected and supported because they mean something to one of us. Even though she does not play, Lady Noah accepted my passion for guitars. She has given me many as gifts and all the expensive ones are discussed up front. Lack of spousal acceptance can lead to the squid pro quo trap of competitive spending.

Now if they'd get decent jobs so they could buy me Ovations, I'd be back in hog heaven again. It helps when they guy sitting next to you and your wife just bought a $90,000 car. My wife wasn't even in the same league when she complained about me having 13 guitars (even though I only have 11).

On the "What She Plays" section in page 54, it reads that she has an old Alvarez that she rediscovered under the bed of her house in Mississippi. She claims that her father "used to hide instruments around the house so her mother wouldn't know how many he had." You forgot the 2 in boxes out in the garage attic. Apparently she found them. I guess that a bad case of GAS then, is still the same as the bad case of GAS that most of us go through today ... :D

The new music room I always wanted is now my new bedroom , kitchen, bathroom , and living room ....... !!!!!!!! IT IS CALLED A GARAGE !!!!!! It is starting to get cold in Michigan again as winter sets in so I think that I will go clean HER house and do some laundry and ironing and have a nice dinner made for her when she gets home from the spa tonight. I want my other life back..... Great advice but be carefull when using it... Anybody have an electric blanket that I can use until next June ???? GWB

I wear the pants around here!...when I'm finished with your laundry. 'Cause I'm a guy you don't want to fight! ... when I say "jump" you say "yeah, right". I'm the man of this house! ... until you get home. What I say goes around here! ... right out the window. And I don't want to hear a lot of whining! ... so I'll shut up. The sooner you learn who's boss around here! ... the sooner you can give me my orders, dear. 'Cause I am the head honcho! ... but it's all in my head. And I can have sex anytime! ... that you want. 'Cause I'm a man who has needs! ... but they're not that important. And don't expect any flowers from me! ... because if I'm not mistaken you prefer jewelry. I'm the king of my castle! ... when you're not around. And I'll drink and watch sports whenever I want! ... to get into trouble. And I'll come home when I'm good and ready! ... to sleep on the couch. Because a man's got to do what a man's got to do! ... and I'm going to do what you tell me to. Because I'm top dog around here! ... but I've been neutered! Sean Morey

Joined: December 2003 Posts: 13996 Location: Upper Left USA | Early on in my journey through GAS and Compulsive Ovation Collection Disorder my Wife caught me surfing questionable places on the Internet! Yup, she caught me perusing StandingOvation's and Samova's picture-palace-of-playable-porn. She conveyed her needs for financial security (pay your damn bills!) taking priority over any idolistic need to accumulate guitars. I attempted rationalizations over other options such as fishing boats, fast cars, etc. It comes down to priorities and what is important. I have seven guitar hangers in my "play room". When they are full and I want another I need to decide what comes down and leaves the roost. Taking parts and learning how to work them, play them and pass them to others has been a great way to experience a lot of great guitars! Admitting I have a problem is the first step. I do not seek a cure, just treatment and this board provides regular meetings! Hi, my name is MWoody and I have some really cool Ovations!

She is careful not to say things like, "why don't you try another brand?" or "you don't have any blue ones like Dave's" because she knows I translate that into permission to buy an Adamas. (I'm expecting some comments about Dave's blue ones, here, guys.) Anyway, now she suggests that I need more guitar hangers or asks if I need more. When I comment on a good deal on ebay, she holds perfectly still, knowing that the slightest twitch will signal approval. She thinks I need a new Porsche, though.
