Paul:

You have the Jim Croce dvd? It has him performing a number of his tunes as well as adding commentary on how they were written.

As a side note, he and his side man were playing Martins but went to Ovations. Made a big difference in his sound (for the better).

When I was in Manhattan before the tour I bought a ton of DVDs. Susan was starting to bitch about how much dough I was spending and in one store it became a toss-up between Jim Croce & a Kinky Freidman DVD. Kinky won, so no, I don't have the Croce DVD, but I'll get it when she's not looking.

There's a couple of stills on the DVD with the Kinkster playing a Folklore

The Jim Croce DVD is a great one. Good live performances and he was a great one, totally agree on that one.

Yer Judgeship ...

Maybe W-2 can correct me on this, but Lennon wasn't seen with an Ovation until he was recording the Starting Over collection in 1980. Gimme Some Truth was done for the Imagine album.

I've posted this before, but just for the 1500 or so that have joing the club since then, here it is again:

(pause) ... oh hell, I can't figure this out. I posted them in the gallery. Check it out.

stonebobbo: Lennon looked a little differently in his Starting Over days. I believe those pics were from more around his Sometime in New York City period. Winston O'Boogie.... I wonder how many people will remember that? And ... if memory serves me correctly, isn't he playing it in the Imagine movie? Of course, my memory COULD be failing me...

stonebobbo: here's a pic I found of Dr. Winston O'Raggae that lends creedence (oh, they're another group) to your Starting Over theory.

Kinky Friedman, now your talking. What songs are on that CD? A great LP I was fortunate to be exposed to years ago is "Sold American"

"And everything’s been sold american,
The lonely night is mourning for the death it never dies.
Everyone’s been sold american
Don’t let me catch you laughing when the jukebox cries."
Kinky Friedman

And of course the classics "The Ballad of Charles Joseph Whitman" and " They Don't Make Jews Like Jesus Anymore"

:) :)

Paul T and all

I just went back over this post expecting to be so incensed that I would have to shout American slogans to save us all, but I found some really good music discussions and some really lame politics. Ce La vie, god damn french always get in the mix.

Paul, the DVD is called unsurprisingly "Proud To Be An Asshole from El Paso" and is a biography rather than a performance, but there's snippets of all his "classics"

Ok, trivia time. The tune "Proud to be an Asshole from El Paso" was written in response to....? No Texans allowed to answer and bonus points to the person who names the artist.

Oh Come on Cliff, Don't be shy. :D We know how much you love singing Merle :D :D
On a serious note, Merle Haggard was a pretty good Songwriter, Talk about eclectic Musical tastes. I look at my music collection and think..
If anybody comes in here and looks at this they are going to die from Culture shock! :D
Guess i just like all kinds of music.
