Well ... all right then ... it does seem to be getting to that most wonderful time of the year. I saw on Facebook how even Tim in Tidewater was singing Let It Snow, Let It Snow. Even have a nip in the air out here in bobboland ... had to put on the jacket the other night.

It's not even close to Christmas yet and I just got a new guitar ... one that I can plug into my Roland Synthesizer and make all kinds of crazy sounds. Not counting the usual crazy sounds I can sometimes make with electric guitars. Now I can even make them all together. Good thing my ceiling is not another man's floor. Or vice versa. Anyway, I bought this guitar from a friend on the board here, and he sent along a couple of surprise gift CDs of his that I didn't have, including one titled Navidad. It's in the changer downstairs in the big room along with some other sounds of the seasons, but one of the songs I had heard before.

Indeed, it was on one of the OFC CD's ... the Holiday one. In fact, it was the opening track. So it just seemed fitting to open this year's holiday season with Sergio's great news:

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Lara & Reyes

I've got like four Sergio Lara discs now and they are all great. If you're not familiar, go to his website and check it out. I think you can buy CDs from him there ... including the Navidad CD he and Joe Reyes put out covering a bunch of classic holiday tunes in their unique, grammy-nominated style. Great stuff on the other CDs too. And the best news ... a new disc coming out sometime soon. I heard some advance stuff and I'm already in line for the disc when it releases. It's really nice work.

Anyway, I'm ready for Santa. The man who brings Joy and Happiness. We can all use some of that. Peace on Earth and Goodwill To Men would be really cool too if we could all pull that off. I'm willing to give it a shot. Will you join me?

Oh yeah, thanks Brad. I do know. But Santa's got to come to town first though and get everything set up. ;) It's all about the delivery and Santa's the man who does it best. On time, every time.

Until the next time, wish for something good this holiday season. Wishes do come true, you know?

Okay, if I have to say it, I will.
That was excellent! We got some players on the team who actually know how to use their equipment.

Bobbo, I think you'll have fun with the synth. It's like learning to play all over again with each instrument you try. Each instrument has it's own feel, so what might sound good on one, doesn't so much on the other.

I've personally been trying to do some sweet sounding sax solos.

I just came here to post this one up. Not mine, though. Something a whole lot better. From the OFC holiday music disc pictured above.

Old City Bar / God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Cliff Doenges

It's a good year to find that place where you hide. And gather with your "family" around, whoever that may be. There's no place like home for the holidays, and let's remember to reach out and touch those visitors who appear, especially the unexpected ones. Use the time for a little rest, too.

Santa's on his way.

Thanks, Bobbo. And Cliff. That's my favorite. When I first heard it I played it over and over, wondering who that deeply sensitive composer and singer was. Nice look into Cliff's sensitive side.

This is my absolute favorite as well. It gets much airplay around here. I like the original version as well (TSO) but there's just something about knowing the guy who's singing it.

Thanks Cliff and Bobbo!

OK, my bubble is only half burst knowing that Cliff didn't write the song (I thought I had heard it before), but it's a great performance. Maybe the reason I haven't ever written a song is that I keep finding songs that I wish I would have written. I don't have enough time left to learn them all, much less write something of my own. This is one that I get three wishes on: wish I would have written that; wish I could play like that and wish I could sing it that well.

That was a wonderfully performed song. The guitar paling was prefect and what a way to start to season. Wish I could get hold of some of these OFC cd's Merry Christmas everyone.

If you go over to the I Believe in Santa Claus thread, you'll see a picture of Pauly and meet him a little bit. This is his song. A great heartfelt story of Christmas.

Old City Bar is one of my favorite contemporary Christmas songs. I would love to have the chords for it Cliff. On the TSO CD, this song is part of a story that continues through each piece of music. I love that the fact that the "child" mentioned in the song is actually an angel, but it's not specifically stated in the song. Subtlety like that is rare in modern music.

Thanks again for the gift Cliff and Bobbo.

I hope you both have a Merry Christmas.

Cliff does that to a bunch of us. He was one of my inspirations when I was first getting up and playing/singing in front of people. That plus all the encouragement from various people here.
