Only the finest of Brazilian fumes. Ever notice how these Brazilian boxes give off a really nice smell when you play them?
I don't notice it so much on the Tak, they all have that "Tak" smell, but try it with a new Collings. My Merrill is great for it.

Nice videos, good playing. Does one really need to do the thumbpick thing to pull off either of those songs? Just curious...

Bill, that aroma is pretty cool. Quite intoxicating, I like it. It's such a nice change from the glue smell that the CB gives off since it came back from the mothership.

I don't recall experiancing that smell on any other Brazian I've played. Will that disappear over time?

Yes, like all other good things, it fades with time, unfortunately.
It does smell good though. I also like the smell of a new maple guitar. My two Collings have that but it's a bit more subtle and fades faster.
I love playing the Merrill cause if you really get on it for about 10 minutes or so you can get a wiff from time to time. Nice to have the guitar comunicating with you as you play it.

the thumbpick is not absolutely necessary but it sure helps to provide volume and the "beat" as the bass strings are plucked. without the pick, certain percussive qualities are decreased which are one of the highlights of this style of playing.

Thanks for the reply, lanaki. I've never played fingerstyle with a thumbpick. I have enough troubles with just my fingers; I'd think the thumbpick would throw me off.

cruster,
with "travis pickin'", the bass strings are usually dampened with the palm of the picking hand, so the pick gives volume to those strings.

here's elizabeth cotten. no thumbpick, for obvious reasons!

Randy, you could of showin' that link before I spent all that money on guitars! :) WOWZERS!!!

Check out the Freight Train vids, and see what was probably the original Karaoke.

Amazing what some people will figure out, out of necessity. Now that is "talent"!

interesting:

this article from harmony central reads that only 25 EF75J guitars will be made available in the united states.

heads up:

this company in texas, which is no longer a takamine dealer, lists an EF75J, #2, as being available. their website was updated yesterday, july 18. i emailed them and also left a voice message on their phone as they are closed for the day. if anyone is interested and it is still available, #2 would be sweet! are you reading this, povation?

http://www.guitarrez.com/aginventory/takef75j.html

funny that they list this as "#2 of only 24 made".

They made about 80 of them and they are all done with that quite a while ago. That might have been the original number for the states but it ended up benig closer to 50 or 60. I think there's at least 8 on this board alone.

My 1969 D-28 sure did and my 1998 Taylor 615 CE does as well! I love the smell of Brazillian in the morning...(or any other time)

My martin was still strong when I sold it three years ago and it was a 69; the Taylor has presentation Brazilian and it is still strong: of course I believe in CASES... :D

I'm beginning to think my EF75J has ruined me. I have always desired a nice Martin, so while in Edmonton yesterday, I had to stop in to the big Martin shop there. I tried an HD-35, an EC small body, and a OOO, that the young fellow watching the acoustic room thought was the best in there.

To say I was underwelmed(sp) would be an understatement! This Tak just blew them away!

Bill, I must say thank you one more time for something that would never have crossed my radar without you nudging it into the spotlight!

Somebody should grab this !!!!

I've been talking to a dealer about a custom order (not a TAK or Ovamas) and at the end of the day I think about my EF75 and ask myself WHY ???

To this day, the EF75 is still the best bargin I ever got on a guitar. Sure I could have spent 4x as much and maybe gotten a different name on the headstock.

Maybe. best to call him....still only a few left out in the wilds and I can't believe any of the ones in current captivity will be allowed to escape.

Like Dave said, one of the best guitars for the money I have ever owned.
