And a song you all know the chords and lyrics to, learned to play early in your own guitardom, and yet it is so different. In such a goode way. Sorry, no Ovations in this one. But without a couple of these cats, you wouldn't have the great Ovations you do. Together they designed/tweaked a whole lot of them, including a bunch of the Collectors. Oh, some of the stories around that ... but that's for another time and another place. hehehe. You think the 1537 is an awesome guitar? The banjo player had a hand in getting it on the map and helping to make sure your Ovation guitar passed the "sound test" if you wanted to play it around with bluegrassers or the Nashville folk. Even if he's playing jazz leads on a banjo in this take. Johnny B. Goode - The Turner London Band Awesome players all the way around. Bill Kaman playing an incredible soulful guitar, both lead and rhythm. Steve Sutton (DeBanjo) putting a banjo where it has no business to be, and yet it's perfect. Davis Turner starting on on the Tele, but then just crooning ... even though he can play acoustic and electric guitar like it's goin' out of style. Pam Davis laying down the bottom (I never cease to be amazed at what a great player she is). Hal Jordan on the drums ... when he's really rocking he is THAT GUY Mark Knopfler talks about in Money For Nothing. And last but not least, Brad Davis (THE Brad Davis!) looking confused and overmatched until he finally gets into the groove and double-down-ups his way to show why he is widely regarded as one of the finest players in the business. What else can one say besides ... y'all need to do that again real be. Until the next time ... be goode.

In brightest day, in blackest night No evil shall escape my sight Let those who worship evil's might Beware my power, Green Lantern's light! Great pick on the tune Bobbo. Those were great days that probably won't be seen again anytime soon.

But that doesn't affect his music much ... in fact, the whole experience gave rise to a whole bunch of good songs. Tough to listen to sometimes, but good songs nonetheless. Some folks have intimated that OFC stands for old farts club. For the most part I'd have to agree, even if none of us can quite accept that reality, even with that face in the mirror staring back at you. But that doesn't mean that only old farts play Ovations. Quite the contrary. Just check out the pictures of the last NAMM show booth. And this song adds evidence to this fact. And to the fact that war can make you old beyond your years ... especially how you think and look at things. Those who don't know what it's like always ask those who do what it's like. And when you've been places, seen things, and done deeds that are beyond the imagination of most, how do you answer? And if you fall into the trap of telling them what it's really like, sometimes they tell you back that what you're doing is wrong. Even though they wanted you to do it for them in the first place. So maybe you've just got to tell them in a song. The Hardest Things - Dane A heavy thing to come out of a 20 year old kid. But it came out anyway. After a first tour in the sandbox when all hell was breaking loose ... reflecting on what had been and imagining what the future would be like when he went back to do it all over again. So it came forth in a texture of words and sounds. With Ovations and Hamers. Asked his old man to help out a bit ... engineer, play percussion, and add a lead guitar bit at the end. So it came to be. And was picked up and released on To The Fallen Records, a label that supports the heroes and their families who are willing to do what needs to be done, no matter the sacrifice. Even if it's the ultimate one. We all makes choices in life. Even when they are thrust upon us. With consequences we couldn't imagine possible when we got ourselves into it. And we want someone else to take it from us and handle it. But no one else is there to take it. So we deal as best we can ... with the fear, the reality, and the memories. Sometimes the hardest things to give away are the hardest things to keep.

I went down to San Diego for five days to make sure #5 was settling in OK ... yeah it's all good. But man, oh man, did it start getting hot. And I mean HOT!! Today, I get word that it was 104 at 10:45 in the morning! It hit a high of 113. In San Diego! Yikes!! We all need a little: Summer Breeze - Scott Lamperd Whew! I'm feeling better already. A little something from the Member's Night Out Vol. 3 - A Day At The Beach CD. Although I suspect all the sand on the beach in San Diego turned to glass today. It was hot all over California today, even up north. But that's OK ... we had a real mild summer so it's Indian Summer for us ... not unheard of. And good too - I've got some friends visiting from out of town in the middle of October so warm weather will be welcome. So enjoy this song from Scott ... or as he says, Scot Lamperd Before Computers. Whatever he is now, I like it. Now ... back into the pool. Catch a wave and catch you soon.

Countless people have trolled through this site and commented on that guitar and that concert. So much of that music that Simon and Garfunkel replayed that day in 1981 is ingrained in the psyche of America. And to me, none more than: America - Standingovation What a great song, and what a great rendition by Standingovation from the very first OFC Member's Night Out CD. I remember being blown away by this track ... mesmerized by the classic Ovation guitar sound, the great harmonies, and wonderful production that put us right there, sitting next to Kathy on that bus in our tattered jeans ... searching for something to make us whole. That's the power of good music. It's what we live for ... to BE the music. And the music to BE us. Somedays we need this more than others, but for me, no day is complete without at least a little bit of music. Especially those days when I'm empty and aching and I don't know why. Enjoy the song. I know I do.

You know, it's not often we get a member here that gets airplay with his music. So it's a real treat to have connected with someone who does. Kit Mann has made a splash here at the OFC, and got his music placed up onto the Soundclick site where this song is currently sitting at #6 in the charts, and has been a top ten hit for weeks now. Cajun Queen - Kit Mann I heard today that his CD is going into the rotation on the radio in his home state of Indiana. His CD is "A Cry For Help", and has some great music on it top to bottom. It's definitely worth a listen to all of you out there. PM Kit and he'll tell you how to get one. Congratulation Kit. It is an honor to know you as a man and as a musician. You've selflessly sacrificed a lot for the good of this country and I am happy you're getting at least a little bit of the recognition you deserve.
