How about making Willard's feedback problem into a commercial.

What if they new guy keeps trying to play and keeps getting nasty feedback over and over, and all the other band members are shaking their heads and giving him the look. Then one of them walks up and snatches his guitar away and they hand him an Ovation. Cut to him jamming clean and loud with a smile and everyone else playing Ovations also.

Forgot the slogan.

Play loud, not obnoxious.

I still like one that I actually heard in the verbal use, but never in print.

A picture of the upper portion of the fretboard (up and down)

At around the 5th fret there is a double-ended graphic arrow pointing up and down. Above the up arrow it sais "If you play here, there are lots of choices" below the down arrow "If you play here, there is only one choice."

I am reminded of a photo of a certain B.T. (San Diego guitar manufacturer) bent over a campfire feeding the fire with pieces of cedar that he brought from the factory.

So the scene is pieces of a wood guitar being placed on a camp fire while one of the guys is playing an Ovation...singing "Easy to get over you..." Or, maybe "Burn baby burn, you're no use to me now."
:D :p :D

You don't go out shopping for a Studebaker
You don't buy your clothes from a leisure suit maker
You don't look for humor from the undertaker
So why buy a guitar from an obsolete flaker

Ovation, the answer to the old folks preachin'
It has a look that will leave them screechin'

"That ain't no country gitter, it's a rockin evil critter"

OVATION ROCKS OLD WOOD SUCKS!!!!

Somewhere I remember reading Ovation had sold more MADE in the USA Guitars than anyone else... If that is still true, they should PLAY that up !!!

HEAR why more (Made in the USA Guitars) are sold by Ovation than ANYONE else...

If they throw in KAMAN Music's total production numbers, they should be able to make some outrageous claims, for production numbers, albeit NOT all made in the USA... that are true!!!

How about this one:

"Put a ROUNDback in the SOUNDjack"

Or at Christmas time:

All I want for X-mas is a new LX,
a new LX, a new LX...
All I want for X-mas is a new LX,
so I can wish you Merry LX-mas

They also should step up to the plate and update their Web Site (as someone recently posted...) It pales in comparison to the sound of these great instruments... and doesn't lead the public to believe the HI-tech sound, could come from such a LOW-tech site...

We've all seen KEWL websites... Heres one that won awards in my DAY JOB:

It uses some type of "Player" let it run and watch the transitions... from screen to screen... There are other spins you can do with your mouse too...

Check this out:

http://www.walkerbay.com/

I'm sure you guys have seen KEWL music sites... Let's throw some examples to the big "O" and see if anyone is listening...

I don't think those production numbers are accurate anymore, 10 years ago maybe, Gibson, Fender and Martin are producing maybe 2-3 times what NH is now.

Let's go back to the beginning,

"The Ovation sound is getting Round"

"a sound decision"

"a Sound choice"

"Because the Sound matters..."

"Come for the Action, Stay for the Sound."

"The action will grab you, but the sound will embrace you."

or, "The action will grab you, but the sound will hold you."

"Ovation - it does a soul good..."

"Form Follows Function."

"Designed to Play."

"Engineered for Performance."

"The guitar that never gets in your way."

"The shortest path to your sound."

That's a start - Maybe I'll send some more later...

Thanks -

Michael

Ovations not just for acoustic guitar players.

A little sci-fi music in the back a voice says Go! where no acoustic guitar player has gone before Ovation.

No, the ad should stress that Ovations ARE for acoustic players.

The ad should stress BOTH plugged and acoustic.

With most others it's either or, not both.

To be blunt, for years, Ovation has told people that they are the plugged in stage guitar of choice.

Now I would like to see them tell people that they are a great "front porch / sittin' around the living room" guitar with a great acoustic sound.

They should take pictures at the next OFC gathering, in the hotel lobby.

Was that a blunt double edged sword there Paul?

How about a commercial where a guy is using his Ovation to sing his kid to sleep/tuck in. then walks out of the trailer heads to the stage and uses the same guitar to do a show!

How about Queen Elizibeth talking to Eric Clapton who is holding a Taylor guitar, she says "and what do you do?", he says "I dont really know", then the shot fades to Jimmy Page soloing on a LX.

Then narrator says "Ovation, for those who know what they're doing"
