You know Mr. Adamas,
It is possible some of those guitars have concealed damage.....being in storage and all, and never having been opened.

Let me be the first to offer my services as a guitar checker-outer to make sure everything is ok. I don't think it would take more than 6-12 months with each guitar to give it a proper going over.

Al still has #301428 listed for sale on his web site… maybe I’m just renting it?

#302447 has cleared Customs and should be here on the 31st.

PlayAdamas, I would consider the WTA to be the proto of the 1537. It is different in the ring construction but the objective and purpose in building them was the same. The WTA proced too hard to produce so the design evolved to the 1537

There were a small amount of the WTA guitars made, less than ten I think. Then the two protos (mine and Glen's) and then production.

Jeff, I think you have the wrong serial on Noah's 2nd 1537 (unless the serial in his post is wrong).

Just as a point of interest, I saw a Randy Travis compilation cd with what looked to be a mid-eighties pic on the front. He was clearly playing a 1537...the wooden knobs and wood binding were hanging out for all to see...

I saw a book on Austin City Limits and saw that Travis played a 1537 there in the mid 80's.

Be fun to try and track it down...maybe it's in OFC hands.

I'm glad to be able to contribute something to this thread since I have no serial # to submit as of yet!

Wayne:

If you ever get a 1537, you'll be in high hog heaven! It won't replace your GC DB. It's a different sound altogether. I apologize up front for the analogy (I didn't come up with this, Goober did), but the GC DB is like a D-18, the 1537 like a D-28. But better. One's brighter, ones deeper. Both great.

 1537 (serial #302447) coming from Canada lost by UPS.

Estimated Delivery changed from the 28th to the 31st due to a delay at Customs Clearing.

Departure Scan Mar.24th Plattsburgh, NY.

Arrival Scan Mar.30th Vernon, CA.

UPS International was contacted yesterday afternoon when the Driver did not have it.

Vernon, CA told UPS Supply Chain Solutions that there was no Physical Arrival Scan.

They believe it never left NY.
Just can't wait to hear from UPS

Don't dispair yet, Noah...in these cross-border transactions, often the paperwork is sent ahead of the guitar and the package has to catch up with it. I makes it confusing when trying to track. Also, holdups for custom clearance (especially post 9/11) are common.

YES... in one piece!
But along its journey from Montreal, #302447 was obviously handled incorrectly.

UPS finally found it in their Salt Lake City Overgoods Warehouse (Lost & Found) without any shipping documents or labels on or in the box.
I had told them it was in its original KAMAN box. Along with its model# & serial#, they were able to confirm that they had found it. :)
UPS International said that the box was damaged and it would be repacked.
They got it here overnight. It arrived in the original box which was not damaged  , but obviously resealed numerous times.
